Fussy eater

Any suggestions for fussy eaters would be much appreciated! My daughter turns 1 on Wednesday and over the course of the last two weeks we have started to reduce her formula and introduce more cows milk. Whilst she seems to be hungrier for food rather than filling up on formula, she can be very fussy with what she eats (throws it on the floor and whinges) which makes meal times very stressful!

Are you eating with her? Is it a table with a high chair? How are you giving the food, eg on a plate, do you give cutlery to play with? Is the food one thing only or are there a few different items on offer? When she throws food do you react? Do share some more info about your set up and I'm sure there will be lots of good tips on the way! :)

Yeah we always eat together at the table and she’s in the highchair. She varies how to eat really - sometimes with her hands, sometimes with cutlery herself (she has a go) and rarely likes to be fed with a spoon / fork. I never react when she throws the food on the floor.. I just offer her something else that’s on her plate. X

@Amy when our LB throws it on the floor(mainly to feed the dog) 🤣 we say for your tummy tum and repeat when needed he does end up stop throwing it until he's full then feeds rhe dog again xx

@Amy sounds like you're doing everything by the book! Is she always like this or is it a recent development? For a 2/3 week stretch my little one was fussy with food too and didn't really want to eat. Played a bit, but was quite unsettled and we ended up having to end meal times early. It coincided with a tooth appearing past her gum which we noticed, and interestingly this week she's been miles better at meal times. Is it possible your little one has some discomfort whilst eating from a cold, or teething etc? Otherwise sending you lots of supportive wishes and I hope you find what clicks with her! ❤️

we in the same boat, feels like she is always ill atm so it's hard to try and progress anything

@Karla same with us, he gets better at eating when he’s not ill/teething, but then it goes downhill again!

This is a normal (but frustrating) phase. Both my 3.5yo and just turned 1yo are good eaters but 3.5 yo went through a phase of doing exactly what you said and it was really annoying but did pass. Just keep offering different foods, some that they will usually eat but keep offering the other stuff. You’ll get past it.
