I had post-partum preeclampsia with my first child and Iā€™m petrified to get it again. Some things I have learned to help prevent it this go around: baby aspirin daily. I take my blood pressure daily. I try to eat a low salt diet because salt raises BP. Iā€™m moving much more this pregnancy to keep weight off. The biggest sign of preeclampsia is high blood pressure, to my understanding. So, trying to follow a lifestyle to prevent it spiking up is what I am doing this go around.

Following! Iā€™m currently 16W3D, also have APSšŸ˜Ÿ

I had it with my first child. While itā€™s not fun, I felt like people made it out to be worse than it actually was. I do take a daily baby aspirin to try to prevent it but, I did last time too and it didnā€™t prevent it, I delivered at 36 weeks to a very healthy 7.1lb baby girl with no nicu stay.

I was diagnosed at 36 weeks and induced that day. Baby aspirin, exercise, and plenty of healthy foods! Anything to keep your blood pressure down. Thatā€™s really all there is to it. I have a healthy boy after everything so yes, it was scary but everything worked out. It also helped that i had a team of doctors who i trustedā¤ļø

I was induced at 34 weeks with my first due to preeclampsia- and thereā€™s nothing I could have done to prevent it. Preeclampsia is associated with your placenta, so I couldnā€™t have changed the outcome even if I wanted to. Although, taking a baby aspirin everyday is recommend preventative, but keep in mind - it doesnā€™t always work. Try not to stress yourself out, watch your blood pressure, keep up with your doctors, and remember - itā€™s not your fault if it happens. šŸ¤

@Tori how much did your son weigh and was he in the Nicu?

@Sophtha he was in the NICU for 3 weeks, and he weighed 5lb 10oz. Donā€™t let that fool you though - heā€™s 7 months old now, weighing in at 20 pounds!

Thatā€™s great!

You can eat low salt and work out vigorously. Working out and eating right can also help prevent gestational diabetes. It's truly essential to get that body moving and modify for pregnancy.

Btw besides working out, healthy eating/low salt and baby Aspirin, studies have shown taking calcium and magnesium can also help prevent it. I forget the dosage but there's lots of info on Google or chatgpt.
