Weaning / Starting Solids

I’m starting to wean my 7mo twins…some days they have porridge, some days fruit they mainly have 1 meal a day such as porridge , fruit puree and then I give them broccoli pieces or banana pieces that they hold theirselves. I was wondering how big portions should I be giving them? As I don’t want to feed them too little but don’t want to feed them too much. I am going to try and decrease amount of bottles they have. How big should portions be?

Around the size of their fist. 🥰

I usually give two tablespoons of whatever it is plus some vegetable or fruit, like today he had fish pie with a piece of broccoli and 2x carrot sticks (cooked) I believe that once they're full they won't eat anymore anyway. My boy has porridge or toast for breakfast with fruit and then lunch and he's on 4 bottles - 2x7oz and 2x6oz

@Lauren what’s the routine of bottles and food for your little one? X

Don’t try to decrease their bottles, they will do it naturally as they start to eat more. Milk is still the main source of nutrition for babies under 1. And as Lauren said they can’t overeat so don’t worry about offering too big of a portion as they’ll only eat what they want anyway 😊

7:30 - milk 6/7oz 8:30/9 - solids (porridge or toast with fruit or yoghurt) 11:30 - milk 6oz 12:30/1 - solids (this can be anything, fish cakes, omelette, meatballs always with veg and yoghurt/fruit 3:30 milk 6oz 6:30/7 milk 6/7oz
