Solid food journey

I’m not sure but it seems my exclusively breastfed baby does seem interested in solids/sometimes grabs the spoon to feed/learning how to put the spoon in his mouth. But should he be eating more than just purées at 8 months( he turned 8 month a few days ago. Plus because he is nursing so much should we do baby led weaning. I’m not sure and I’m so confused on what to do. This is my first baby and I kinda feel weird asking the mothers in my family. Idk talking to my family and asking questions kinda makes me feel like they think I don’t know how/can’t raise my baby

I’m in the same boat. I have a 8 months old baby too. I’m also exclusively breastfeeding, but still offer him purées and smoothies. He tends to like the smoothies more. Every child is different. It’s okay if his not interested keep offering it to him and still breastfeeding.

You can do purée or start solids it’s definitely a personal choice and what you feel comfortable with. There’s no wrong as long as your baby is fed ☺️ I also exclusively breastfeed and do baby led weaning my daughter hated purees but loves solid food. I joined a fb group that shows how to serve the baby different foods at different stages and age appropriate they don’t choke. Don’t feel like you are asking a dumb question parenting is all about learning as we go. You’re doing amazing

Every baby is different. With my first, we introduced purées a 6 months and gradually started adding more foods she took interest in with the development of teeth. My 2nd is also a June 2024 baby. Introduction to food is a lot less complicated because he crawls after whatever snacks his sister leaves on the floor. I wouldn’t stress interest in food, all babies eventually take interest. What’s important is learning what they can have, and how things should be prepared or cut! Solids before 1 are just for Fun! Baby led weaning is great! But sometimes they need to know it is okay to try new things, they learn from us!

I’d say if your baby likes pureed you should keep offering with different variety so he can get different taste. If you’re comfortable, instead of mashing food to pureed, you can make it more chunky but make sure it’s soft (like steamed pumpkins, carrots etc) and offer to him with your hands. Maybe he’ll grab it and put it in his mouth maybe not. My baby started to refuse pureed that’s why I’m doing it this way, it’s kind of transition between spoon feeding and BLW. She’s more open to me feeding her with my hands. Sometimes she’ll grab it. And then maybe at the end of the day before shower you can stripe him down to diaper only and just give him some cut soft foods on the tray and see what he does with it just to see, then bathe afterwards
