I have PCOS. I managed to conceive the first month trying but unfortunately ended in early miscarriage. It then took a year to conceive again but that also unfortunately ended in chemical pregnancy. I then fell pregnant the month after that but yet again that ended in early miscarriage. I fell pregnant again the month after that and luckily was prescribed progesterone (although I literally had to beg the GP, they refused. EPU refused to see me when I started spotting despite my history and that being the first sign I was going to miscarry with my previous pregnancies but luckily my midwife hub gave me a direct number for a specific person in the EPU and she prescribed me progesterone). My problem wasn’t actually conceiving but managing to keep the pregnancy/carry full term. Everyone is different and that includes people with PCOS. I know people with it who have had no problems and people with it who have problems conceiving. I would definitely recommend tracking ovulation with
Ovulation tests and BBT to actually confirm ovulation has happened because some people with PCOS have several “peaks” but don’t always ovulate with them (I’m one of them) some people with PCOS also don’t ovulate at all so would be worth checking that first. I had my baby girl in December and she’s now nearly 10 weeks old. I do think without the progesterone she wouldn’t be here so make sure, whatever you do, you advocate strongly for yourself and trust your gut too x
@Natasha congrats Natasha! I totally agree with the progesterone. Im taking estrogen 3x a day and progesterone injections (PIO shots) 1x a day until 10 weeks pregnant.
Once the doctor's do internal scans and have your lab results, they can confirm or rule out PCOS. For any type of fertility treatment in the United States, the doctors would usually want you to try on your own for atleast a year with no luck. And then that's when they will determine what the underlying issue is. But alot of times, if you have been trying overall l, not just with your partner, for over a year, you can say that as well. I dont ovulate naturally on my own because I have PCOS so they prescribed me letrozole and ive tried Clomid as well in the past also. For clomid, i didnt ovulate. Letrozole i did and we tried 2 IUIs which failed. Ended up moving on to IVF and had my first transfer 2/11 and now im pregnant. They'll probably put you on letrozole or clomid or metformin then move on to IUI then IVF if possible. But good luck on your scan!
