Nope, I had acrylic with gel polish and nail art for an elective c-section. No issues with the oxygen/pulse monitor that goes on your finger. I kept my toes bare, just incase but they weren’t needed 🤷🏻♀️
I had gels on for both births and they were electives. I asked my obstetrician days before the surgery and her only comment was “what colour?” 😂 the tech is so good now and you are monitored all over. I had a probe on my toe in theatre.
Generally yes!!! The only time your nails might become an issue is if the medical staff is trying oxygen levels using a pulse oximeter (clips to the finger). Fake nails, especially acrylics or gels, can interfere with getting an accurate reading. Maybe call the hospital and just ask. Never hurts. From personal experience I had fake nails during both of my births and nothing was said about it. But this was in the US—and I’m not familiar with your country and general hospital rules
I asked my midwife this on my appt this week she said gel is fine sometimes acrylics can be an issue but they can put it on your toe if necessary! I’ve been in and out for check ups with the oxygen thing clipped to my fingers and always had gel on
Are you having a c section? I was in hospital today and a girl came in with gel nails and they made her remove general varnish from her toes just incase
@Lizzie it's generally because nail bed colour indicates blood circulation in surgery if you needed to be put under not for the observations!
No, I wasn't told I had to when I had my little boy
