Do you make your children wear helmets?

Since my daughter has been learning to ride a bike I’ve been shocked that nearly every other child we see doesn’t have a helmet. Scooter, bike, rollerblades etc none of them wear one. Curious if you make your children wear one? My daughter is always complaining everyone else doesn’t wear one and I keep telling her that she needs to protect her head 🫣😂

Yep, always. He doesn’t have an issue with wearing one, he just knows it’s just part of being able to go out on his bike or scooter. But like your daughter he has noticed that lots of other children don’t, he doesn’t complain, its usually followed up with some kind of comment to me like “I hope they don’t fall off and hurt their heads!’. He’s a stickler for rules 😂

If it has wheels my 2yr old wears his helmet inside or outside because i like his noggin😂

My kid isn’t riding bikes yet BUT when the time comes she 100% will be wearing one

I find it mad! On the little compound we live there is children on electric scooters charging around with no helmet or 2 year olds on scooters and it terrifies me! I always say to her that I’m her mummy and that’s her rule but I’m not everyone else’s mummy so I can make their rules 😂 Luckily she does wear it but she just whinges a bit that it’s unfair but I remind her that a head injury is much worse than wearing a helmet!

Yes, also knee and elbow pads. Always. I think it is so silly to see children 3-16 not wearing anything in the skatepark. I know there will come a day when my kid will ask why he should wear it if the rest don't. I already have my script.

Mine wears a helmet on a bicycle. But not for scooters or the hoverboard

If he doesn’t put his helmet on, we don’t go on the bike. He is given the choice to make and he always wants to go on his bike so after a back and forth, he’ll put it on

No helmet = no bike or scooter simple as

I want them to wear it but find it hard when it's cold outside it doesn't go over the hats and for girl, if I make her hair, it's all ruined 🙄 so mostly we wear it but not if she goes to school 🤷‍♀️

Absolutely, every time.

Every single time, she knows if she wants to go on her bike/scooter then she HAS to wear her helmet. No compromises on safety.

Yes! She has a purple gruffalo one and she loves it.

Always. It drives me crazy when kids don’t have a helmet on lol we have a neighbor kid who never has a helmet and I asked her one day if she needed to run home and get one and she said her parents do not make her wear one.

Just in the backyard, no But any time we go to the park or on a public road, yes.

Yes every time. For bikes as well as skiing (he started learning at 2) Friends of ours have a boy 1 year older and they actually gave us shit for making him wear helmets. We all took the kids skiing and theirs threw a royal fit over a ski helmet so they let him go without. about 6 months later they suddenly make both of their kids wear helmets and think it's the best thing to start them young 😂

Yes every single time, it’s amazing how many other kids scooter to school in the morning and don’t wear a helmet.

Absolutely my kids will always wear helmets. I have a cousin that fell off her bike when she was 10 and hit her head on a rock. She’s been in a wheelchair since with very limited speech and very limited movements in her arms, none in her legs. She is in her 40s now.

Yes!! Always!! Adults should also please model wearing a helmet as well. I always wear a helmet.

As a kid I had friends ending up in ER, you need protective gear. Your knees and hands can suffer for life. Brain injuries are the main cause of disability in children. Protect those little heads.

@Rachel oh my goodness. I’m so sorry that must of been so tough for your family. Lends as a reminder why it’s so important 😭

When using the trike I didn't because I was always holding it and he was buckled in. But when he gets a bike or scooter yes absolutely

@Emilie She’s about 15 years older than me so I’ve only ever known her in a wheelchair, but yes that’s why I posted that it’s a reminder for all the people clicking no or sometimes why it’s always important to have a helmet on!

my LG doesn’t ride her scooter outside so no she doesn’t wear one (we’re not at the stage where i trust her to listen on it outside) BUT i am planning on getting her one!

Helmets are legally required here and I remember hearing about someone dying after they went down a hill too fast. Definitely getting helmets for this spring to learn to ride.

My kid is 15 months and we're already starting to helmet train her on her strider bike. Idaf if it's indoors. Bikes equal helmets, and we'll be going full on knee pads and elbow pads when we're outdoors this summer.
