It's normal ... it doesn't mean they don't like it they're just getting used to the textures and tastes. Their gag reflex is further forward to prevent choking

They are suppose to gag . But I found my sons gagging to be extreme. Like he couldn’t eat anything without gagging. He had a severe tongue/lip tie. Once I took care of those. He improved majorly and wasn’t gagging on food anymore or even his sippy cup

Thankyou ladies, I don’t think he has a tongue or a lip tie as he was a premie and was in hospital for over 2 months I would have thought they’d say something to me maybe ?

@Leigh🤍 they don’t. No one said anything to me about them, and when I asked the pediatrician, they said “it’s normal” and dismissed me. But he was having an awful time to the point I continued to nurse because he literally couldn’t eat. A group I’m apart of told me to take him to a certified lactation consultant and they are the ones who are trained to diagnose ties. And my second baby had ties. And my third that I just had, has ties. Btw my son (1st baby) and my now 3rd baby were also considered premies too.

Well.. I’m off to a lactation consultant!! Thankyou honey

@Leigh🤍 it doesn’t hurt to get him checked! But if he ends up not having them, they can definitely help with the gagging, just in my experience it was a tongue tie before the tongue is what helps gagging not happen so often if it can move properly. And because my son couldn’t move food with his tongue he would gag. Good luck mama !

Thankyou queen 🙌🏼🤍

Did your bub have issues drinking from a bottle ? My son doesn’t seem like he has bottle issues. Would that mean the same thing still ? I give him majority milk at almost 1 because he can’t eat :(

@Megan

@Leigh🤍 yes! He absolutely refuses bottles, and pacifiers. And he would gag on everything. They said with a lip tie he had made it hard for him to latch to a bottle because again it prevents his lip from being able to extend and get a good suction. And again the tongue tie also plays into that. I didn’t get his fixed until he was 11 months old. So even after j got it done there was a different but it took a couple weeks for him to not have issues. And with my second I got hers dealt with right away and she is a foodie. No issues with bottles or food. And so far my third has been dealt with and she’s nursing so much better and I even got her to take a bottle. Which is so nice. They told me if my first had ties that it’s more likely for your future children to have them too. So that’s why I immediately took them to get checked. And I will only take them to a certified lactation consultant.

@Megan Thankyou x I will definitely look into this x he doesn’t have a problem with bottles at all drinks like a champ but dummies he’s never taken to for the gag reason.
