Toddler walking in shops

So I want to get my son used to walking about in shops but the few times we've tried he is awful like he's so unbelievable stubborn I'll try and make a game out of it if he doesn't want to go the way we're going but he'll just start screaming and I don't understand it, he was a late walker so it wasn't ideal that he was in his independent stage right when he started walking I just need tips on what to do he literally just wants to go anywhere but where we're going it's so stressful now we just put him in the pram everywhere because idk what to do anymore

I mean realistically he is too young to be able to understand that you "need" him to go a certain way, and that he can't just wander off the way he wants. They don't develop impulse control until like 2.5 - 3 years old. My niece is 3 and a half and has only recently started to walk sensibly with her parents instead of wanting to wander off. I think in the shops when you have an agenda you can't expect him to walk around with you the way you need to go and it makes more sense to have him in the pram or trolley đź›’

@Steph okay thank you I just keep seeing other children close to his age when I'm out and about and they're just happy toddling along with their parents so just feel like I'm doing something wrong
