Can you get pregnant when EBF?

We’re hoping to start trying for baby no 2 in the summer. I’m EBF and my period hasn’t returned yet. Can I still get pregnant if my period hasn’t come back?

Yes, you can still ovulate even if you’ve not got your period (my GP told me this). However without your cycle, it will be tricky to know when you’re actually ovulating. You can buy the ovulation strips off Amazon, they’re really good that way you can test every day and then you’ll know when you’re ovulating. Just want to add tho that although you could still potentially ovulate, doesn’t mean you definitely will, women who EBF can go months without ovulating. I have a friend who got pregnant while EBF her first baby, so it can happen x

Also, hats off to you for wanting to try for a second baby soon, I’m so traumatised by the 4 month sleep regression, I don’t know if I’ll ever recover hahaha

A lot of women start ovulating and having a period again once they've got into weaning a bit and are feeding less so probably by the summer there is a good chance you'll be ovulating again.

You can get pregnant, yes. But with my first child, my period didn’t return until just after her first birthday! We weren’t trying for baby no 2, but I might not have been ovulating before that point.

Thanks everyone! 🥰
