Weaning

So my little boy is 7 months old today and I’ve been doing purées since we started our weaning journey! I wanna move on to more solid food but can’t shake the fear of choking! I’ve educated my self on what to do if choking was to happen but I still can’t get over that fear🥹I don’t know if it’s just anxiety or what but I don’t want it to get to the point where he has food aversions to more solid food. Any tips or reassurance will be appreciated!

Watch videos to know the difference between gagging and choking. Gagging is normal and nothing to fear. If you watch some videos on youtube this should help you with your fear and anxiety 😊

Solid starts has some brilliant info about what to serve, how and when. It also talks about foods that they definitely couldn't choke on but would help them map their mouths to reduce the chances (chicken legs, ribs etc)

It’s a very natural and normal fear and you’ve done the right thing by educating yourself. As mentioned above definitely look at the gagging v choking as gagging is very normal reflex for babies. Maybe look to start with the wafers or melty sticks (they are like wotsits texture so melt away to nothing as they get wet and soggy). Might help give some confidence to try others. My little boy loved feeding himself the solid food so I had to face the fear head on quite quickly but it does get easier. I just made sure all the foods were well cooked (when required) and the solid starts website tells you how to prepare/serve foods depending on age which again was really helpful! Good luck lovely! X
