You open the fruit and see one is moldy. What do you do?

My husband and I always have this “fight”. If I see any mold, I throw them all away. Even the ones not touching or far away. They all gotta go. My husband says you just throw away the moldy ones and the ones close to it and clean the others well. And then you can keep them and eat them.

Depends on the fruit. Oranges/satsumas/etc then trow the mouldy one and any soft ones nearby and eat the rest. Berries or soft fruits with no peel then bin the lot, unless it's a fairly full punnet where the rest seem okay I may keep the half and eat them that day.

Its a no for me, in the trash they all go. 🗑️

Who’s got the money to keep replacing it -pick out and enjoy the rest. At the rate my LG eats it they don’t have a chance to go moldy anyway 😂

Throw away the moldy one and eat the rest. We spend to much in groceries to just toss out the whole thing.

I’ll throw out the moldy and ones touching it just incase but the other end is fair game lol

You are incredibly wasteful to do that, so I'm definitely on your husbands side here! Fruit is too expensive to just throw away like that!

There is no reason to throw away the ones not mouldy, it's just an aversion you have maybe. I also sometimes cut the bad part and eat the rest of the fruit, vegetables ,depending on what they are.. I'm trying to don't waste food as much as I can🤷‍♀️...sorry your husband is right on that one😊...Also, pretty sure in store they are doing the same before you buy them

Throw away the mouldy one only, otherwise its just waste

Defo not throwing, and depending on what it is I’m cutting the mould off and using the other parts.

The mold you can see if the final stage of mold. So even tho the rest look fine that doesn’t mean there’s no mold, it’s just most likely in the stage that you can’t see it yet.

What a waste!

Throw the mouldy one and eat the rest. Such a waste otherwise.

I have OCD relating to contamination, I would throw the punnet away, and if I wouldn't eat something I wouldn't serve it to my child. I understand that it may seem wasteful, but it is a disorder. If something is hard, like an apple, it is less likely that the mould has spread to those outside of what is touching it. So I would chuck the mouldy apple away and probably keep the rest, maybe peel and bake them. If it is soft, like a berry or an orange, it's very likely that the mould has spread throughout. By the time you see the mould, it has already contaminated the entire fruit that it is on. Similarly with bread, if there is visible mould there is a lot more mould that you can't see throughout the loaf, if one slice is mouldy the whole thing is. If your husband wants to eat the mouldy fruit he is welcome to, you and your children should not have to play mouldy food roulette especially if there's only one toilet at home 😅

@Claudia this makes sense to me. I do not have ocd but I am veryy particular about my food. I would not want to eat fruit that was in the same container as mold so I don’t let my kids. I am honestly very shocked at these results! I thought for sure i was the “right” one here. I’m still going to do it but it’s interesting that lots of others would be okay with eating it!

@Haley 29% of us stand with you girl you're not alone 😂 sometimes the mould in things like this is toxic, like potato mould or garlic mould, I don't know enough about the different types of mould that affect each fruit or veg, so I don't risk it!

If it's like a bunch of bananas then no just throw the mouldy one ,you can definitely eat the rest of them ,but things like onions and tomatoes or garlic should be thrown away ...berries and some fruits you should be aware of ...we like to freeze some berries to make them last longer and when we want to use them I just make some jam out of them We just to conserve as much as possible to reduce waste ,
