Weaning!

Hi, ftm here! I’ve seen people introduce purées at 4 months, my little brother (18 months now) was also introduced purées at 4 months. My lb is amazing with a spoon as he’s had a&p powder for his teethies! Is it safe to introduce purées at 4 months? He’s currently 14 weeks nearly 15 weeks. I want to BLW at 6 months as I’d rather him be confident within foods, he’s a very strong boy so I have no doubt he will be okay and I also helped my mum with blw when my little brother was 6 months. I’ve seen a lot of mixed opinions about purées at 4 months but I just wanted to gather some info & advice etc. Thank you! Xxx

I also wanted to add that he can hold his head with no wobbles etc anymore, he’s nearly there with sitting up unaided!!🥹 He’s very coordinated and can put toys in his mouth and explore things xx

I personally waited until 6 months with mine as that’s the medical guidance. I know things were different in our parents time and you can get food marketed from 4 months up but both health visitors I saw advised against it. They told me that although baby might show signs, don’t start until at least 6 months. I personally think medical advice is there for a reason so when I was a ftm, I wanted to follow it to be safe. I don’t think there is a right or wrong, it’s just what feels safe and right for you

We waited until recently at 5 months to start purées. However i make my own so i know what goes in them, we use the pouches if we’re out and about. We weaned our girl because she’s drinking 9oz 1-2 hours and she’s just not being filled up, she’s constantly waking throughout the night for bottles and she never did before. Our doctor also gave us the go ahead to start weaning as she’s showing signs. Maybe speak to your doctor first? But then again, you’re the mum so you know best😊 if you believe little one is ready for weaning, you can always try and they’ll let you know whether they’re ready or not x
