Purées and solids

My daughter is 5 months old and we are starting purées and I feel so clueless. I know to start with vegetables but what’s about it. How often should we do purées? how much? Is there any tips to help them learn to eat properly? When do we switch from single ingredient foods? I feel like I have so many questions but not finding answers.

You don’t need to start with vegetables, just offer a wide variety. You can just do one meal of solids per day to start. We did two meals at 8 months and 3 meals at 10 months and introduced snacks at 12 months. You don’t need to do single ingredient foods, just introduce the common allergens on their own in case of any reaction - then you’d easily be able to identify what caused it. Whether doing purées or finger foods it’s highly encouraged to let babies self feed which helps their eating skills so much and also decreases risk of choking. Babies are really good intuitive eaters so you can follow their lead with how much to give them. Since milk is still their main source of nutrition until 12 months try to make sure baby isn’t too hungry OR too full when having solids. About 45 minutes after a milk feed is typically good timing.

I hold a smooshy strawberry and let him nibble it hes 5 mo also anddd I mixx puree pouches with baby oatmeal and I let him munch on orange slices with me holding… and thats as far a si got

My daughter just started solids last week but she’s struggling how can I make easier for her to eat

@Kristine baby needs practice. It can take a while for them to learn to swallow. They are only used to milk.

I used the pathways.org app and did their feeding steps.

My SIL told me once I day since I started at 4 months. She ended up doing twice though because she also gets it at daycare. I also do between 2-4 oz (gerber). I just follow her lead. I don’t force her to eat if she doesn’t want anymore. I also started doing mix once I introduced her to at least one of the ingredients if it’s two or two if it’s 3 etc
