Do schools provide lunch in Toronto/TDSB schools

Hello Moms, my kid will be starting kindergarten this year and for some reason I’m not getting this information from other parents. Do schools usually provide lunch to kids or do parents have to pack lunch and send it with the kids. I see articles on nutrition program and hot lunch program in TDSB website. However I am getting conflicting information from other parents.

It depends on the school. Some schools have lunch programs (through an outside vendor) that parents can pay for, but otherwise you will have to send a lunch. We personally don't participate in our school's lunch program, but we do participate in the weekly pizza lunches that the parent council organizers as a fundraiser for the school. If you'd like any more information, feel free to reach out to me.

You have to contact the particular school your child will be starting at. Some have a program you can pay into, which provides hot meals some days, some for all days, and some don't have a program at all. Either way, you'll probably have to send lunch at least some days.

Check the school’s website to see if they have any information about hot meals. Not every school has it.
