I wouldn't recommend deli meat, lol there's so many other food options, why risk it?
i ate turkey sandwiches my whole pregnancy.. everything was fine
I did with my baby, I was just extra careful. If I questioned if it was getting too old at all, I didn't eat it. I have a mom friend with 3 healthy kids, and she ate it all the time, too. I would just be extra cautious if it seems past due at all
The risk with deli meat isn’t that it will harm your baby it’s that there is a higher risk of you getting food poisoning because of how it’s stored and how long it’s open etc and can be difficult in pregnancy as you get dehydrated quickly which can then cause issues. You can buy packaged ham and makes sandwiches yourself and that is perfectly safe as long as it’s stored correctly
I still ate it. I just didn’t do alcohol obviously or raw foods like sushi or meat
The danger with deli meat is that while pregnant you're at higher risk of listeria, because you're immunocompromised. Listeria during pregnancy can cause stillbirth, preterm labor or meningitis in a newborn. While the risk isn't sky high, it's still higher than the general population and especially with all of the listeria outbreaks with meat the US (where I'm from) had last year, it was just not worth it to me to risk it.
I have eaten lots of ham and a small amount of chorizo through my whole pregnancy and so has my aunty. I am 18 weeks she is 29 weeks both our baby’s are measuring very well. She did this with her first born and he came out perfectly! As long as it’s stored at the right temperature (mine was always from my own fridge) I really don’t think you need to worry!
