I started my little girl on purées and then mash after a few weeks, it’s all dependant on the day really with her. But I try and give one mashed meal a day and the rest is milk throughout. I mostly give mashed food in the late afternoon. I have trouble with her touching food and putting it in her mouth/ baby led weaning, she won’t put anything to her mouth 😫😫 it’s such a struggle honestly.
My lb is just over 6month and he has milk in the morning when he wakes, has some porridge about 11ish, then he will sometimes have milk about 12.30 then I give him half a jar and a yogurt about 2.30. Then he will have half a jar and some mashed up banana about 5ish. Then he will have milk after that. He won't put food to his mouth yet and will only eat food that is really smooth.
We’ve only just started. We’re on day five and I’m trying to give him something every day. I’m doing purées but where possible I cook a little of the food in stick form for him to play with and chew on as well. I did avocado yesterday and just mashed it with a fork. So far, he’s only had a couple of small mouthfuls of each one. There’s been some gagging and some face pulling, but he’s so far admirably tolerated this new weird activity we do every day.
@Sharon mine does face pulling too, he shudders at the taste of things too🤣
Started with purées the week before 6 months because our girl was HUNGRY and she was eating them/ swallowing them well so at 6 months moved onto a mixture of purées and solids. since then we have on to baby porridge blended with poached blueberries in the mornings and then a mixture of soft solids for her to hold/ear/ play with (egg strips, courgette muffins, chunky sweet potato wedges, v soft pasta, tender stem brocolli steams etc) offered alongside thicker purée/mashed foods 3 times a day. We try to offer about 2 x table spoons per meal and offer a meal after some milk as milk is still meant to be their main source of food. Most of the time out little one eats most of what we offer but today she has realised she can blow raspberries with it 😂 still gags and spits out/shakes head at flavours and textures she doesn’t like. I was EBF before this apart from her bedtime feed, but gradually now moving to a bottle at every milk time- so it’s been trial and error how much milk to offer! X
@Ellie I noticed you mentioned tea in your comment and just wanted to say that tea is not recommended for babies. 1. It interferes with iron absorption. Many teas contain tannins, which can reduce iron absorption and increase the risk of anemia. 2. It contains compounds that may not be safe for babies. Eg “ Herbal teas can have substances that affect the baby’s digestive and nervous systems. For example, peppermint tea can relax the esophageal muscles too much and worsen reflux. 3. It can reduce appetite. Babies have small stomachs, and if they drink tea instead of breast milk or formula, they may not get enough essential nutrients. 4. Some teas contain caffeine. Black, green, and even some herbal teas can have a stimulating effect on the nervous system.
@Adina I think Ellie might mean tea as in the meal - e.g., breakfast, lunch and tea.
@Sharon ups, my bad then 🙈
I started with breakfast. I give him breakfast and then an hour later some milk, I’ve tried giving him tea too but he won’t take to that yet
