Weaning

I don't understand how some Aug babies are already having 3 meals a day and snacks. I was under the impression it's just one at 6 months then up to 2 at 7 months. How come some are different? My baby is big for her age but I'm sticking to guidelines and I don't know if I'm doing something wrong when I come on here and see that babies are eating like adults😄

Hi there, I’m weaning my baby and he is 6 months 3 weeks almost and I have given him 2 meals a day and yesterday gave him 3 - however, he only has 3 tablespoons if that. Good to follow the guidelines but also every baby is different.

Hi, my boy is 6 months and 1 week and on 3 meals a day. I started weaning at 4 months to help his reflux but it was only small amounts and stayed on 1 meal for about 3 weeks

My baby is nearly 7 months and has only been weaning for a few days as he wasn’t interested when he was 6 months. He was also premature so he wasn’t ready. I only feed him one meal a day and he only will have a couple of mouthfuls

My baby’s 7 months next week and we’re on 1 meal but i’m not in a huge rush to push it. Admittedly I also have no idea how people find time to fit 2/3 in so i need to play around with some timings 😆

I give my girl some toast for breakfast because otherwise she wants mine, she doesn’t really eat it she just sucks it and breaks it up and then I give her dinner (many baby led sometimes a little bit of puree). Occasionally I will give her a melty stick or 2 at lunch but again she doesn’t eat much. She is just over 7 months and we started at 6 months

My LG is 7 months now, I started her with a few spoons, she started showing a lot of interest in eating. We went on holiday for 2 weeks and she was hungry all the time I was having to make bottles more often so started giving her more meals once we returned. She now has porridge for breakfast, fruit for lunch and a dinner with 5 bottles throughout the day. She used to drink 7oz but now drinks around 5oz maximum around having her meals and she’s not a big baby either. I’m still not sure if I’m doing things correctly I’m just following the fact that she has an interest in food. I felt very pressured by TikTok and this app that my baby should be eating finger foods and snacks but you know your baby best and every baby really does what they’re comfortable with.

Just wanted to say you’re doing the right thing by following the guidelines. The most nutritious thing for babies is milk so that’s the priority then food comes second. I have also been confused by babies eating 3 meals already as mine is one one. I would not rush giving food because before you know it you’ll have tubs of prepared fruit and meals etc - it’s a mission in itself!

My August baby doesn’t want any food yet. Follow your baby & what works for you x

@Kirsty I’ve been offering something but the last two days it’s just been cucumber sticks whilst we eat our dinner. She won’t hold it but will suck/try to chew it if we pop it near her mouth first her x

My little boy was born on the 19th and we’ve only been weaning for a week. I try to give him something different every day (mostly purees, but I’m hoping to do more BLW later on) and very little of it actually goes in his mouth.

My baby is 7 months and she’s on 3 meals and snacks but she’s been on purées since 17 weeks under dietician for her CMPA and reflux. She was on just one meal for about a month she was on just a teaspoon then went up to a table spoon and then 2 and 3 table spoons before I moved onto breakfast then did the same and she’s now seven months and is on three meals and snacks here and there but not every day does she have a snack.

I'm doing 1 meal a day and a couple of snacks like melty puff. She's only on purees and mashed food for now

We did one meal at 6 months and started two a day when he turned 7 months this week. He doesn’t need snacks or anything like that. He barely wants his two meals some days so that’s fun… not 🤣

My girl is almost 7 months and we’re on one meal slowly moving to 2 meals per day. Trying not to rush it so she can adapt and still have her milk

6 months and only doing 1 a day. Been focusing on doing the allergens one at a time

Guidelines are just that, guidance. They’re based on recommendations for the whole population, so won’t always be specific to to your child. Babies are intuitive eaters, and literally cannot overeat (unless medically indicated) so if they’re displaying hunger cues, they should be fed. They’re also all individual human beings , so for some babies increasing their meals will come sooner than for others. In the same way you and I both eat different daily amounts. My 7 month old is on 2 pretty big meals a day, alongside her usual breastfeeding, and occasionally a snack. We do BLW so she’s consuming solids.

My girl is 7 months i just let her lead. Shes offered food every time my toddlers eat. At this age they only eat about a tbsp of food per meal so its not a lot over the full day x
