Baby's heartbeat

I've just found and heard babys heartbeat for the first time using my hand held doppler đŸ„°. I'm only 11 and a half weeks so super early to find it but it was amazing. Me and my husband both just cried đŸ„čđŸ„č. This is my second baby and I did read that you can find it sooner but wasn't expecting it this early đŸ„°

Incredibile! Any recommendations on brand or where to get them from?

You shouldn’t use these xx

Silly question, how do you know its theirs not yours?x

@Emma why when they are used by midwives also at check ups?

@Becky because my heart rate was around 68 at the time and this was 164

@Lucy they’re trained to use them. I think each to their own but unfortunately there’s a lot of research suggesting to leave them to the professionals but if it gives you peace of mind that’s fine. A lot of the time it’s not the baby’s heartbeat you’re necessarily hearing x

@Jam they don’t recommend using one. You’ll hear the heartbeat at your midwife appointments x

It's fine to use a doppler yourself, you just shouldnt use it for reassurance if for example further along your pregnancy you have reduced movements, don't assume that because you hear a heartbeat from the doppler that that is enough. The placenta makes a whoosing noise due to blood flow and this can often be mistaken for babies heartbeat.

@Katie Most use for reassurance as they assume if they hear ‘babies heartbeat’ all is well which isn’t always the case so it’s not really worth using them really. X

What brand did you use?

I wasn't using it for reassurance. This is my second child, I know if I have any concerns to go to maternity. I'm not stupid. We got this for a bit of fun for me, my husband and son to play around with, as we did with my last pregnancy. I made this post as a lighthearted and cheerful post, not to be spoken to like a child đŸ€ŠđŸ»â€â™€ïž

@Lucy they are trainer professionals. These can cause scares and unnecessary panic and should be left to professionals x

@Lucy now you have one if you can’t find the heartbeat you will panic and call the midwife which is why they are left to professionals x

@Lucy i don’t see where you’ve been spoken to like a child? Everyone’s been informative. We’re informing people who come on this post thinking oooo I want a Doppler too, not understanding that they’re not advisable to use. You asked why midwives use them, I responded. In no way was I condescending.

@Ashley Thank you for this. I spoke with my husband and we're happy to wait until the next scan. It was an exciting and tempting thought especially as it's our first but if it's not necessary, then happy to go without and trust that all is well.
