Gestational hypertension or preeclampsia

I am literally so stressed! I’ve had an absolute breeze of a pregnancy really up until this point and now I feel everything’s going wrong! First trimester- yes I felt a bit sicky but never actually threw up, I was super tired though Second trimester- breeze, although put alot of weight on tbh Third trimester - breeze up until 33/34/35 weeks, so I started getting slightly swollen feet, and then carpal tunnel in my hands, then pain in my ribs, and I tested my blood pressure at home and was slightly elevated! I had my 36 week midwife appointment yesterday and my blood pressure was at 147/93 so she sent me to the MAU, also referred me for a growth scan as he was measuring large! Got to the hospital and my scan was fine he’s on the 54th centimetres so bang on really! Then went to triage where they tested my blood pressure and was again still high, then did a urine sample and it came back with no protein in, then took bloods and said they would call with the results, assuming it would be the same day as she said she didn’t want to keep me in, my blood pressure eventually came down so I was sent away! Basically they advised me to stop work( I only had until Friday left anyway) and then to get my blood pressure checked every Tuesday and Thursday, but I am still waiting on the results of my blood tests so I’m just in panic mode as they think it could be gestational hypertension and not preeclampsia but they need the results to be sure

They should have the results back today and should call you if there’s any concern with them. You could also call them yourself to check to put your mind at ease, a midwife just told me to call the triage line to check mine before. Do you have access to a BP monitor at home? It’s the best way to get an accurate resting BP reading, that way you can also act quickly if it suddenly increases as preeclampsia can develop very quickly.

I feel like I’m currently on a similar pathway to you! (Currently 33 weeks) Blood pressure increasing at last three midwife appointments, went yesterday and got to go back on Monday for another blood pressure test. The appointment before that I was sent to MAU but after about an hour they got blood pressure to a normal level. Midwife yesterday said baby was measuring on the bigger side but not to worry yet. Will send me for a growth scan at 36 weeks if he’s even bigger 😅 it’s all fun and games isn’t it! It’s good that they’ve done the bloods though and that they are keeping an eye on it and they’ll continue to monitor it and give you any meds if needed. It is stressful. We are nearly there!! Hopefully you’ll feel slightly better when you’ve finished work

Hey, I have just been diagnosed with gestational hypertension at 35 weeks after a very similar story to yours! Been started on Labetalol and am having twice weekly BP and urine checks at the hospital to check it doesn’t develop to pre-eclampsia. Would definitely recommend checking it at home to keep an eye on it (but not so much that you get obsessed!) maybe like 3 times a day. Just use it as your sign to slow down and take it easy. Here if you want to message about anything else! Xx
