Depends on when you ovulate really. The date of your last period is standard in the medical field kind of to give doctors an idea but not very accurate. I don’t get any prenatal care from a provider and no ultrasounds but if i were to count from my last period i would be going on 9 weeks, but because i know when i ovulated it puts me at around 6.5 weeks. That’s why it makes zero sense why they put a “due date” on babies and pressure women into inductions based on the 40 week mark bc we don’t all ovulate on the expected average cycle day.
If you're not actively tracking your ovulation, which is most common with IVF, then they're pretty adamant about using your menstrual cycle because they cannot scientifically verify your conception date. The estimate also changes depending on the length of your cycle. I always know all of my dates because I've tracked myself since before cell phones had apps and am usually correct; this time I used a digital evaluation tester, so I can show my date of conception. I'm sooo curious to see how it aligns with my ultrasound today.
I track mine every time cause PCOS. Have to jump start periods and ovulation. So I know when I ovulate blah blah and they said I was measuring a day ahead obviously they won't change my due date but I thought that was pretty interesting.
They’re going by how many weeks your baby is measuring via the ultrasound, and if they did it transvaginally then it’s very accurate. My last period was December 16th, which would put me at 12 weeks and 2 days due September 22nd. But when I had my first ultrasound at 8 weeks the baby measured a week and half behind that meaning I ovulated late so they changed my due date to 10/2 which now puts me at 10 weeks and 6 days. So if they are telling you that you aren’t as far along, then you probably ovulated late too and that’s why they change your due date and how far along you are. This is my fourth pregnancy and this is the only time my due date was changed. So they can’t always go by your last period, which I had no idea until recently.
