We went through this, was a combination of training the dog and teaching the toddler. We let her feed the dogs their food and just reiterated every meal they can't eat human food until it stuck
Don't leave your kid alone with the food (in this particular situation and in general, there are still risks of choking at that age). And stand your ground. You are the adult, you install and hold the boundaries. When she gives her food to the dog you calmly stop her (physically stop her and take the food) and put the food back on her plate saying "the food stays on the plate " or "the food is only for 'insert her name' ". If she does it again, you take her plate and say something like "I see you're all done so I'm taking your plate" or "I won't let you give the food to the dog" and take the plate away. You might need to do that for a few days but she will quickly learn as long as you keep your boundary at all times (that's the most important part).
I've found putting the dogs outside while my daughter eats helps heaps this was us a few months back now she's fine cause the pets are outside
I always put the pup outside while the toddler eats otherwise she does the same thing.
Is your toddler roaming while she eats? It might help to have her eat at the table. We have to train both our baby and the dog. It’s ongoing, but you have to be consistent with the boundary. And we try not to let her see us feeding the dog scraps.
Who cares if your dog cries at the back door. Mine does too. Doesn’t mean they need to be inside whilst eating! Your dog isn’t going to die crying outside 😆 also get your LO to help feed the dog the dog food if they aren’t already seeing as they enjoy feeding the dog :) but honestly the easiest solution here is leave the dog outside.
Best to have a place for your dog to go to whilst baby eats, get a bed for dog to sit in. If the dog comes out of the bed tell them to go back to their bed etc, even if the food is dropped on the floor etc. that’s what we do and the doggo knows when ever baby has food she goes onto her bed :)
