Baby food

I know this is probably obvious but can I start feeding my baby these from 4months or is it best to wait until 6months?

If there’s no medical reason to start earlier then you’re best waiting until 6 months, any earlier is unnecessary as baby’s digestive system isn’t developed enough. They have 4 months+ on as some babies have to be weaned earlier for medical reasons. You might find baby is ready between 5-6 months. They have to be able to hold their head up fully with no support, they have to be able to sit up straight in the high chair x

If you are advised to start weaning at 4 months then you can use these but typically you won’t start introducing solids until at least 6 months or when baby starts giving signs that they are ready.

It’s Usually 6 months unless you’ve been advised medically to start earlier

Weaning before 6 months can cause long term issues in adulthood like IBS and Crohn’s. Only if you are advised by a qualified medical professional (and this does not include health visitors, midwives or your regular doctor - they are not sufficiently trained in this area) should you start before 4 months.

These say from 4 months cos companies want to make money. Definitely wait until 6 months when showing signs of readiness

Even the 4+ pouches say it’s best to wait until 6 months. They’re mainly there for people who have been medically advised to ween them early, maybe not putting enough weight on for example.

I started both my girls at 4 months, they loved it! No harm trying and if you feel they’re ready and take to it then carry on! You’ll know if their not ready, says 4 months for a reason, do what you feel you want to do, a lot of us start from 4/5 months and both my girls are brilliant eaters, my youngest is only 9 months and loves her food on 3 meals a day x

@Georgia hi! Everyone is free to make their own choices but it should be an informed choice 🙂 There is a lot of harm in starting weaning under 6 months, it can cause IBS and Crohn’s in adulthood. The reason it says 4 months on the packaging is because the law has unfortunately not yet caught up with the evidence of the harm of early weaning. The companies that sell baby food from 4 months do not care about your child, so they do not care about the harm they can cause. As I said, everyone is free to make their own choices, but it is inaccurate to say it doesn’t cause harm when the research and evidence has shown it can xx
