My daughter is starting preschool/nursery this September but officially you start real school from 4 years old. So August babies 2023 will start 2027 x

If there is a school nursery they could start sept 26, but would be reception in sept 27

At what age is preschool, please?

Depends on a few things, do you want to do pre-school? Because that's not compulsory and they start around 3. Reception starts at 4, but I also think that's not compulsory, however most people choose to do it. Compulsory school is from 5. And I think kids born before 31st August 2023 start september of the year they turn 3, 4 or 5 drpending what you choose from the above.

Our little girl will be starting the pre school of her school in September 2026 and then starting reception in 2027

They would start primary school in reception year in September 2027, which means you need to join the school tours around October 2026 to have a look around, school applications then have to be made by mid Jan 2027 (check the date with local council nearer the time) If you want to postpone school entry you still need to apply as if they were joining in 2027 and then make a case with the reasons for delayed entry which will then be considered by the school/council. If they agree to delay by a year this doesn't mean the child will automatically start in reception, they may go straight in to year 1 having effectively missed a school year. Also when it comes to pre-school, some people choose to and others don't. If you do decide to put them in pre-school they start at 3. I know it can all be a bit overwhelming, hope this helps!

It depends on the school and child's age/development. Some go in at late 4yrs old, others wait another year.

What age is pre- school and do we have to pay for pre-school?

If you’re in the UK it’ll be September 2027 for reception class (full time school). Some have a nursery connected to the school so they’d start the year before (2026).

@Shruthi the pre school we are sending our LG to is one that starts in the September after she's 3 which is 5 days after she's 3! Yes you have to pay but I think it's 15 funded hours plus 15 if you're working parents
