Weaning

Can anyone please help or even just sympathise šŸ˜… My LG is 9 months and we are so behind with weaning. The only thing she will eat is porridge. Iā€™ve tried lots of individual veggie purĆ©es and the only thing she took to was sweet potato. Even fruits she isnā€™t interested in. Weetabix was also a no. I know itā€™s all perseverance and patience but sometimes I think how many times can I try because she is literally spitting it out and point blank refusing the spoon, spraying food everywhere and it ends up being binned šŸ˜ Please help, I feel like an awful mum and Iā€™m struggling. Sheā€™s also my second and my first was nothing like this!!

Have you tried baby led weaning rather than spoon feeding? My first used to refuse the spoon but would happily feed himself anything he could grab. Other than that I think like you say itā€™s just a case of persevering, sheā€™ll get there and youā€™re definitely not an awful mumšŸ˜˜

@Anna I think this is going to be my next route but I donā€™t know where to begin as my first wasnā€™t bothered with BLW šŸ™ˆ Iā€™ll have to do a bit of research and see where to start x

Youā€™re not an awful mum at all lovely. Donā€™t put too much pressure on trying things too fast because the slower the better. My friend went through this and i advised she tried her baby on chicken stock and itā€™s worked wonders. You just boil chicken (joints are best, like neck and feet but you can just use a whole chicken) on the hob and use the stock that it makes as a base for their food and a drink throughout the day. Itā€™s really good for reheating frozen food that you make too to keep it from drying out. Iā€™m yet to meet a baby that doesnā€™t lap it up xx

Definitely try BLW! My LO isnā€™t doing that well with weaning either, but no way in hell will she let me feed her with a spoon. Sheā€™s quite content to be self feeding with things that are easy to hold like broccoli florets, asparagus spears, strips of pepper/carrot/cucumber etc, toast fingers, fusilli pasta etc anything thatā€™s not too slippery. She struggles a bit with fruit although she obviously enjoys it. Everything else I just try and load up a spoon and hand it to her in mid air to feed herself but itā€™s a mixed bag. Youā€™re not an awful mum. Itā€™s funny how different they can all be, I donā€™t remember having such a difficult time with my first either! Iā€™m looking forward to her developing her pincer grasp so she can feed herself with a bit more variety!

BLW all the way! My girl is 9.5 months old and loves it! I still spoon feed her some stuff, but I don't puree or mash it. Tonight she had salmon fillet, sticky rice and slices of avocado šŸ„‘

Please donā€™t feel like an awful mum. Youā€™re doing your best. All babies are different and will all do things at their own pace. You are trying and you have offered foods. Maybe the baby led weaning route might help. Also if you speak to your health visitor/ or go to a well baby clinic at your local childrenā€™s centre - maybe they can help you, if this is something you feel you need extra support on

Thank you all for you lovely comments, youā€™ve made an exhausted mummy feel much better. Iā€™m definitely going to try the BLW route. The research begins šŸ©·

Good luck mama, you got this! ā¤ļø you're not an awful mum! Let us know how BLW goes xx

My little girl wonā€™t even eat anything!! Try not to worry!! Xx

@alicia we are trying at least two sessions a day of eating. Thereā€™s no way of telling how much is actually eaten but we try. Not that I wish for anyone to struggle but I feel better knowing Iā€™m not the only one hearing what youā€™re saying about yours. Because I was feeling awful too that my baby wasnā€™t on 3 meals a day plus two snacks. According to my baby led weaning app, this is what babies aged similar to mine are doing šŸ˜…

@Barbra my first was having 3 meals and 2 snacks by now but my second is nearly 9m gagges and is sick with everything Iv given her so far. Doesnā€™t even open her mouth x

@alicia oh dear. Sorry to hear this! We are all trying our best. All we can do is offer food, support the babies and just let them do what they can šŸ¤·šŸ¾ā€ā™€ļø as long as they are healthy and we have got the help we are supposed to get, we canā€™t do more than that šŸ˜« xx
