Please say my toddler isn’t the only one…

So our little one has just got over tonsillitis and his appetite still isn’t great. Recently when we have been having foods like spaghetti bolognaise and curry which he normally would eat no problem, he all of a sudden hates his hands getting messy and I really don’t know where it’s come from, we’ve had a smooth weaning journey from when he first started eating solids, he can’t really use cutlery properly yet, but his fine motors skills are good. I don’t know what to about it, am hoping it’s just a phase. Just wondering if anyone else’s little one has been the same?

Mine hasn’t been ill but he’s not been eating properly for the past few days. Refusing everything. He has porridge and honey without a fail for breakfast for as long as I can remember but he’s been refusing that too. He’s never been the best eater though unlike yours. Always hated getting his hands messy and wants to be fed most of the time but he always tried new foods. Refuses to put a spoon in his mouth atm. I’m trying not to get frustrated but it’s so hard when he’ll happily snack but refusing meals.

Has your LO got all their teeth? My LO is eating less but that's because it hurts to chew I've realised so is living off homemade soup, yogurt, milk, soft fruits for the past week. He's cutting his final set of molars x

Maybe try some messy food play if you’re brave enough haha! It’s supposed to encourage them to play and explore and not be so scared of getting their hands dirty! My girl is the same though. Doesn’t like it, as much as I’ve tried to encourage it and let her know it’s fine!

@Shazida aw no that must be hard. Yeah he’s been absolutely fine up until now. Yep mine used to eat off a preloaded spoon but won’t now for some reason. I bet it is quite frustrating, I hope I haven’t gotten into the habit of letting him treat meal times like a snack with him been poorly and mainly eating snacks.

@Alix only teeth he hasn’t got yet is his second molars, I keep thinking he might be teething, but am not 100%. Still not sure why he’s not happy eating messier foods though. X

@Xanthe I was considering this haha, only problem is we have a dog and an open plan downstairs area. Yep me too, I read online that it could just be a phase so fingers crossed

Omg my daughter has become like this too! She sits there with her hands out and refuses to eat until I wipe it! I literally hate messy play with my life but might have to start encouraging it 🙈

@Hodan am really hoping it’s just a phase otherwise he’s living on sandwiches etc. Am the same never done messy play at home lol and same 🙈
