Food

I’m at my wit’s end when it comes to my 18 month old eating. He doesn’t eat or doesn’t want to eat anything that’s not picky bits, snacks or cereal. Even his nursery have commented that he doesn’t do meals, only the picky bit type of foods. I’ve kept trying to give him meal type foods but it all ends up on the floor or he just refuses to eat. Dinner time is the worst because he just doesn’t eat so I make something else that he’d usually eat but he still won’t have it, so I haven’t been giving him anything else other than breastfeeding him before bedtime like I always do. It’s so disheartening when I persevere and it goes down the drain or in the bin because he doesn’t have it. I’ve started giving him smaller amounts so it doesn’t overwhelm him but again he doesn’t have it. Do I just leave food out for him that he can nibble on throughout the day or make the meals and cut them into bite sizes and leave them on a plate for him to eat whenever he feels like it? I don’t want to create bad habits. My husband grew up with tv dinners and I love eating dinner at the dining table and I feel so anxious if my little one wanders round eating. Any advice? 😩😩

We have similar with my son who's just over two, he like snacks mostly, what I do is say give him each thing individually rather than together so like couple sausages then mash Potatoe after then beans, he seems to eat it better this way. If everything on plate he tends to pick one thing eat it leave rest. My son had good days and bad days with food like me, for example today has been a banana, bowl crunchy nut, four freddos, four packets fridge raiders, packet raisins, a crumpet and some grapes. Yesterday was a chunk of cheese, two yoghurts and a packet of crisps everything else he threw I the floor but I always offer everything I can, sometimes he tries everything sometimes not. It's hard isn't it I'd leave it for him to graze on, a grazing plate or tray with his favourites and few new things

My eldest son who is now 5 was the same. I was still breastfeeding and found when I stopped he ate much more and doesn't stop eating now. My youngest is exactly the same. Even though I went through this with my eldest I still worry now. He's just her chicken pox too so that put him off his food even more. I'm just getting what I can down him and if he's still like this in a week or so and I'll give the health visitor a call. Good luck with your journey x

My son is similar, he doesn't eat pasta, rice or anything with sauce really. What we do is give him one food at a time, he seems to do better with that as he seems to hate food mashed up together. So we do veggies first, then meat, then bread or mash etc

@Elisabeta Furtuna and what if he doesn’t eat anything even if you give it one at a time? 😩
