Does anyone work from home and care for baby? Thoughts on nursery for younger ones?

I'm going to need to work as well as my husband to pay the mortgage. I'm considering going back maybe 4 days a week a few months after baby is here. I know my neighbour works from home along with her husband and between them they look after their 1 year old everyday. Does anyone have any tips or thoughts on me trying to do this? I can also get some help from my mum who lives 20 mins away. I'm considering getting on the nursery waiting list to send my LO for maybe 2 days a week from 9 months. Any thoughts or tips on if this is a good or bad idea?? Thanks 🙏🏻

Definitely register nursery and decide at the time whether you still want it or not (learnt the hard way).

Absolutely get childcare otherwise you'll risk losing your job. Most UK companies won't allow you to be looking after a child while working and as they get older the more difficult it becomes.

I would ask your mum to help out as much as she can .

I can’t get anything done when little one is at home or very little anyway. Was a bit easier when he wasn’t mobile and slept on me a lot but now it’s almost impossible and he loves to press all the keys on the laptop 🤦‍♀️ so I would recommend nursery, it wasn’t what I wanted but he loves it and it means I can actually do some work!

My husband works from home and it's literally impossible, when she was a baby wasn't so bad, but I was there not working. If he was to work and do childcare 1 of them or both would slip

I’d get on the nursery list. Whether it’s doable with baby at home completely depends on babies sleep habits etc but it gets harder as they get more active and want to play. The more help you can have from your mum the better! I went back at 4 months 2 days a week as I run my own business and my mum helped out on those days. This time round I think we will be starting nursery earlier as my mum is older and gets more tired! Probably at 9 months.
