@Hannah that’s fair! How early were you if you don’t mind me asking?
I was a bit superstitious to buy anything too early in my first pregnancy. I think I was about 32 weeks before my husband started decorating the nursery and our items started arriving. We did buy he first outfit at 20 weeks as we wanted to buy the first thing for her. This time we are having another girl and I’ve kept everything from the first so have it all, but we are moving house at the end of April so I can’t get anything ready this time yet and it’s starting to get to me lol.
I’ve brought nothing.. I have baskets ready and it all comes within a few days
Sorry to hear about your sister. I'm 27 weeks and only just started buying things- trying to get sorted bit by bit before I start bumping too hard and get too uncomfortable! It definitely makes everything feel more real, but we should embrace and enjoy it, even if it’s a little scary. Good luck! X
Thanks everyone and yes totally right should start to embrace and enjoy it! X
Sorry to hear about your sister. I have most things now, but not packed my hospital bag. If I'm honest I tend to make a list for that and pack most of it in early labour as it gives me a distraction, though I'll likely pack a small emergency bag in the next few weeks that I'll throw in the main one when the time comes. For me, as I'm the one that does a lot of the DIY etc in the house I wanted to do get it done before I was unable to do so, so actually completed the nursery last week and the cot arrived and was built during the week. I do have a few small bits left to do in there, but they're livable with!
I'm 29 weeks tomorrow. We have clothes people have passed down to us but that's it so far. Not sure yet when we will buy things but I've done a list of what we need to get and a list for my hospital bag.
Firstly I’m sorry to hear about your sister, I hope she’s doing ok now. In terms of being prepared, I’m in a similar boat to you. I’m 28 weeks and my baby has a lot of cute outfits and some basics but I do NOT have the big stuff sorted. I’ve been out shopping a few times with good intentions and relate to the overwhelm! It’s also very easy to get yourself in a spin by seeing how much everyone else has done and got but hard to plan and action everything you need and want (whilst being pregnant and likely not always feeling top of the world!). Something that has really helped me feel calmer and make little bits of progress is making a google sheet of all the bits we need with space for links and ideas and a tick box for each item when it’s been bought. It’s surprising how good it feels to be able to get an easy win and check even something tiny off! We’ll all get there 😊
So sorry to hear about your sister! I’m 28 weeks and have everything but the pram system now! Ideally, I need to buy some more sleep suits, bed sheets and formula (in case I can’t BF) but I found buying bit by bit every week has made it feel less overwhelming. We’ve just got the basics, mind - no fancy machines or anything. Will buy as we go. When I went out shopping at 12 weeks I came home empty handed because I didn’t understand anything and there was SO much. I would definitely recommend buying bit by bit, just getting a basic list of firms and ticking it off and it doesn’t feel as daunting. Everything will be fine, all the best for your pregnancy! 💕
We’ve bought a tin of paint and got 3 huge bags of clothes that were given to us 🥴 Hoping to reuse all the equipment etc from my first but some of it’s in the loft, some in the garage…. You’re not alone.
With my first I waited because we had the same thing you had but with my Sister in law while I ws also pregnant, so we didn’t buy until he was almost here x You do whatever you want to do,take your time and buy things when you want
@Jade thank you. So sorry you experienced something so similar. Hard to be excited when also dealing with grief and guilt - all very complicated x
Thank you everyone! ❤️
I'm 28 weeks and i had a stillbirth last year at 26 weeks. I told my sister in law to take all baby stuff out my room after i got back from the hospital. I had only bought a few pieces of clothes. This time i have recently ordered my pushchair and carseat but told the shop owner about my history and he agreed to let me collect it when i feel more comfortable. I've got a changing mat and a little bit of clothes, some free mam bottles from private scans but nothing else as I am too scared! Also how are babies this expensive now!!

@Sonia so very sorry to hear that. Totally understandable why you feel like that. ❤️
With my first I was way more prepared. This time because I already have all the big stuff ie pram, cot etc I’m much more chilled and barely bought anything. I would def get a pram sorted asap. I chose ours, went to order it at like 22 weeks and was told it was out of stock until after the baby was due 🙈
With our first, everything had been bought and was ready by 30 weeks. 29 weeks into second pregnancy and poor girl has only just got some clothes 🤦🏻♀️. We already have the next to me crib and swaddles, sleep sacks from our son but in terms of car seat, double pram etc, safe to say don’t have anything. Our children will be sharing a room eventually and we are needing to change the wardrobe situation but still haven’t done anything yet. I’m itching to get things ready but my partner is slow in these situations
I’m 26 weeks and have just started buying bits and painted the nursery today. It’s only because I need to make it real . I had a son in August who was still born at 24 weeks and recently passed all the milestones from before x
29 weeks myself and we haven’t bought anything yet! We have just moved house last week so didn’t see much point in buying stuff until we moved and we also have stuff/handmedowns coming from a few people too so waiting for that to make its way before we start buying anything! (not to mention I have no idea where to start! 🙈)
I have purely because my 1st was early, and it was rubbish having nothing prepared.
