Lentils- so cheap and so versatile, and really nutritious too. Dhal and curries, lentil bolognese etc. Buy a big portion of beef mince and cook into different meals: bolognese, chilli con carne, hotpot/cottage pie Eggs are a great option too as you can have them in so many different ways. Cardiff.mum on Instagram used to do a 5 for £25 series, you might not like all the meals but it might give you some inspiration of what you could do with a smaller budget- no doubt they’ll be loads of other people on social media doing similar.
Baked potato with cheese, beans or tuna. Pasta with tuna, mayo and sweetcorn. Or broccoli cream cheese pasta. Mashed potatoes with cheese and beans. Wrap or bagel pizzas. Vegetable stew. Shepherds pie.
All of the above plus if u want easy quick meals use the dinner 12+ purées as a sauce rather than a meal and add extras in like veggies or pasta, mash etc… Like a curry purée has everything in but may not be filling so add some rice into it and use the purée as a sauce rather than the whole meal! I saw a recipe which I’ve used a few times since which is a can of sweetcorn, can of tuna, a few potatoes mash it all up together breadcrumb it and it’s baby fish patties which stay for a week in an airtight container in the fridge and can be used as a main protein source on the plate like mini burgers cut up into pasta etc… It’s so hard figuring some meals I think the best way to save money is making batch foods for a week for them if 3/4 different lunch and dinner items and reheating! I also think making from scratch like breakfast bars and stuff are a really good way of saving money xx
