When did your baby want solids or anything that wasn’t their bottle?

I’m a bit worried I’m going to have to seek professional help at some point. My baby boy is almost 9m and still not interested in any foods. Not the finger foods or the puffs. It’s almost like he recognizes texture and won’t put it in his mouth but with anything else so quick to put in his mouth. If I feed him purées, he will cry and gag. My oldest would stare us down when we ate and was always a great eater by 7 months. I know we’re not suppose to compare but when’s it’s all you got, it’s almost the inevitable. Can mommas weigh in and share similar experiences?

Started at 6 months. It might take them a few months to get interested, just keep offering.

Although it's advised after 6 months I don't think they start to worry till after a year. I know before the 1900s they didn't even staff weaning till 11 months. Keep trying if they're happy explore the good that's okay. Foods not really for nutrition before 1 anyways. It's to expose them to textures and to tastes along with alligens but they'll get there

They say you have to offer like 10 times sometimes before they try something. However I might ask your pediatrician if they are showing absolutely no interest. SLPs (speech, language, pathology) are absolutely fantastic and can help diagnose feeding issues (like tongue tie or swallow issue). If there's something going on it might be better to get on top of. But not eating much and gagging are very normal at this age.

Mine started when she was about six months as she wanted more and more bottles

My daughter is almost 18 months and loooves food now. But she took forever to get started. She maybe started actually eating around 10 months but before she literally would like constantly gag and not want to try anything besides puffs. I was worried to but I just kept offering and she finally got to it

you have to keep introducing

We introduced at 6mths but she wasn't actually interested until around 15mths. Everyone had something to day about it. She mostly just wanted to nurse and maybe she'd eat some foods one day and no foods the next day. I just continued making her a plate and sat her at the table with my wife and I. I didn't add any pressure. Now she eats 3 full meals and lots of snacks throughout the day 🤣

My daughter didn’t really get interested in foods till about 16 months!

Do you offer abit of whatever you're eating rather than just baby snacks? As my baby much prefers food I've made over those. I'm noticing that my baby dislikes to be spoon fed for for the most part, but I think this is because we've done mostly BLW since 6 months

Keep being consistent! My daughter showed absolutely no interest until around 9/10 months and then it just sort of clicked. But before that she was not interested at all.

My baby showed interest at 4 months but I waited til they could sit up unsupported at 5 months to start solids

Mine didn't warm up to them till 14months.

Have you checked for a lip and tongue tie? My friends baby had a similar issue and that was why.

Mine didn’t start getting really interested until around a year! He may just not be ready yet

mines is 12 months soon and still wouldnt eat solids fr but sometimes the applesauce pouches.

My first had to see dietician and OT. This is what they said. Food is for fun till one. Not sure if have but making it more a sensory fun activity and play. Take the pressure off eating. Eventually he may put his hand in his mouth or something with food on it. Also having them join you for meal times at the table.

@Kira this is actually an outdated saying… it stems from the correct fact that up until one a baby’s main nutrition comes from milk (breast or formula). But the reason a little one weans at 6 months is because their nutrient levels (especially) iron begin to deplete so solids are introduced to replenish them. Even just tasting foods without swallowing can help to replenish some of the nutrients lost.

4 months. He just was not getting full enough with milk alone.

@Taylor thanks for letting me know. I am aware of the Iron. As I said, just what I was told at the hospital.

Same here and we’re 7 months. Our Doctor said it’s perfectly ok. He has counselled us to make sure we introduce allergens, so we’re trying. But same as you: zero interest. Our little guy is, however, really starting to imitate. So, when I eat with him, he seems to be more curious and puts his own spoon to his mouth, even if not really eating anything from it yet. 😆
