Nursery fees

My gosh nursery is expensive!! How much are people paying for full two days a week with government free 15 hours in London just so I know I’m not going mad or need to look elsewhere.

Following because I’m also curious

My cousin pays 850£ for 3 days with the 15 hours in East London

I wanted to do two mornings 8-1 a week, with the 15 hours and it was still £180 a month x

Around £300 for 2 days and funded hours otherwise it's almost double. Excited as it'll be £0 from September!!

390 for two days .. we have the tax free too so for government add around 50 pound

Roughly £100 a day

My LO goes 4 days in a week without any govt grant and we pay 1800 per month.

@Peanut Mom 😮 what sort of job do you have? Lol

@Cerise IT TECH

15 hours free we pay around £600 per month on an average month now! From September (pre school) 4 school days a week we will only be paying for lunches 😃 x

Is the 30 hours for under 3s for everyone?

@Gemma 15 hours if you fall under the earning threshold. Then 30 Hours when they turn 3. Then everyone gets 15 hours at 3 regardless x

How are we actually affording all this seriously! I’m shaking in my boots here

Seeing all these replies makes me feel a little better, I’m not the only one suffering with these prices

With much difficulty despite both being high earners. It wouldn’t have been possible without the 15 hours and really looking forward to getting the 30 hours from September. It’s disgusting and the government needs to do even better by providing free/ even more subsidised childcare. Having children shouldn’t be a luxury like it is at the moment.

I work in the nursery so I get 50% discount

mine goes childminding which I find more affordable

@Sophie-Jayne thanks. Where did I read 30 hours starting September 2025. Hmmm

£500 a month for 2 days a week with 30 hours funding. We’re had to do the other 3 days a week with a childminder ad-hoc as we work shifts and it’s just so expensive

Before funding my nursery was £125 a day so around £2k a month. I went down to 2 full days with funding and it was still £500

My LO goes to nursery 2 full days a week-£80 a day with everything included, I also have a tax free childcare account so instead of paying £160 a week I actually spend £130. From April our 15 free hours (10 hours for all year round) starts so this will reduce the bill significantly.

We are approx £190/month for two days with 15 hours but this is term time only

@Elsa how are you affording that? I mean kudos to you. But at these prices with two kids you would be saving money with a nanny

@Dal nannies are also super expensive here. There is also a 5% sibling discount for one of the kids so it ends up being £3,365 for 5 days for both. A nanny would be similarly priced here but a) I prefer nurseries for socialisation and b) this cost will be more like £2,500 from September given the 30 hours so its more cost effective in the long term.

@Dal I am in marketing and my salary and that of my husband (product management) is a bit higher than £3,365 so makes sense for us but as I said its tough.

@Elsa glad you guys make it work. But these prices government needs to do more. Especially since the free 30 hours are term time only. Our jobs aren’t term time only and not everyone has a village to help out. My family is in Scotland.

@Dal totally! My family is also in Greece and my husband’s in Scotland. I also realised we also get the £500 per 3 months from tax free childcare so between the two we will be paying around £3,000 for now. Every little helps.

@Elsa yeah that limitation isn’t fair either. Would childcare vouchers be better? I’m not sure if they have limits too
