I had my LG in February at the Rosie. The birth center is a midwife led unit situated inside the Rosie. There are 12 rooms, each with a double bed, pool and access to a garden. The delivery unit (labour ward) has 1 pool in the whole unit which you cannot reserve. You’ll have your own room for active labour and birth, then may be moved to ward afterwards. I had my girl in the birth centre with a water birth and I loved every moment of it. I was allowed to keep the room the whole time up until the moment I went home. All the midwives are so so lovely aswell! Feel free to message if you have any questions x
@Keira this sounds amazing!! I’ve been induced and had an epidural both times so I’m desperate to go into spontaneous labour and use the pool
@Eleanor thank you this is so useful I just took a watch!!
My two births were both on delivery unit, if you have any questions just message. I was induced but i got to use the pool room up until I decided I wanted an epidural. Planning for the second time round though I was told the pool room is quite often free because most people birthing on the delivery unit aren’t often able to use the pool, most that are able to are often in the birth centre. If that makes sense.
The girls above have already done a good job explaining the labour ward and birth centre.. but I just wanted to add too that I gave back in the birth centre back in November and it was amazing. The staff were incredible and the rooms were so nice and roomy. I had a tear so had to be moved to the hospital ward for recovery, and it was great. The staff were fab x
Had our little boy in September at the Rosie, was premature and had to spend time in the nicu the staff were so lovely and supportive before, during and after our emergency c section!!
Hi, I am having my first one in April too, so just following for more information. Full of anxiety already 🥲
I had an epidural birth at the Rosie and it was wonderful - 1:1 care with a midwife, really responsive anaesthetist. Better than I could have dreamed. I have a massive needle phobia so they arranged a chat with the consultant anaesthetist a few weeks before I was due, to get my birth plan written up and to make sure I was put at ease. I never imagined giving birth would be such a pleasant experience!
I had twins Dec 2023 there, absolutely amazing!! I had an emergency c section but my midwives were Lesley and Chloe and I still think of them every day, they were amazing and literally become my best friends for the night! Everyone is so caring and lovely. The nicu staff are phenomenal too!! Xx
Thank you so much ladies!!!
The birth centre is midwife led and the delivery unit (labour ward?) has both midwives and doctors/consultants etc. If you needed medical intervention or epidural for example during labour on the birth centre you’d be taken up the lift to the delivery unit upstairs. You need to be a low risk pregnancy and go into spontaneous labour to give birth in the birth centre. Once you’ve had your baby on the delivery unit you are moved to the Lady Mary Ward which is four women per room (with curtains between bays). There is one room on the delivery unit with a pool in yes. There’s loads of helpful tour videos on the Rosie website :)
