Royal or St. John's?

Hi mummas! Pregnant with my 2nd child, having my 1st midwife appointment next week and not sure about the hospital to choose. I had my 1st baby at the Royal, was an elective c-section and the care was excellent, however the maternity ward was so busy and the whole experience was a bit of a nightmare. I am aware about the recent inspections at the Royal and the concerning finds which make me think St. John's will be a better option. It will be a c-section again. Any advice, please? Xx

I gave birth in St John’s I cannot fault them they were absolutely amazing made you feel at ease and listened to you x

I opted for St John’s but I ended up being diverted to the royal while in labor because St John’s was too busy and I actually couldn’t fault the royal at all, stayed over night in the birthing centre after birth and the midwives were amazing

What's happening in the Royal?

Just had my second planned section at the royal 2 weeks ago. Honestly had a brilliant experience. They were a wee bit short staffed on the ward but the care was outstanding!

St John’s! I went to the royal with my first (needed to be induced) and they didn’t monitor me at all. Pretty much forgot I was there for a day and then told me labour ward was full so I had to wait til tomorrow after being told I needed to be induced within the 24 hours due to risk of infection. I moved to St John’s at this point and wish I’d gone there from the beginning. Care was faultless. Had a midwife with me 24/7 who couldn’t do enough to look after me and make sure me and baby were safe. I wouldn’t hesitate to go back to St John’s they were absolutely amazing x

I had my first at the royal and honestly couldn’t fault them, I had complications and they were amazing with me

The royal. St John’s were terrible in my opinion. I’ve had one at each.

I had mine at the birth centre at the royal. It was a really good experience, there were only midwives and they did everything to follow my birth plan. I had meconium in my water so they called the doctor (standard procedure, in case she had issues breathing) but my daughter was born immediately after that and she was okay.

@Emma I completely agree with you ! It was only 2 midwives and 1 doctor I felt actually cared about me there , the rest weren’t the best😢 I’m scared to go back in the future x

I had my baby at St John’s and had a lovely experience, regardless of my unplanned c section. I was treated like royalty 🤷🏻‍♀️

I gave birth last Yr in Feb at St John's and absolutely amazing experience I think they are better than royal as that's where I had my little girl 8 yr ago , couldn't fault st John's and if I ever have more in future it will definitely be St John's xx
