Ahh okay thank you!
You go for a check up with the gp at 6 weeks for you and baby but they don’t give you anything after just asked how I was etc and that was it
Generally you have a GP check up at 6 weeks but you have to book this in. Could be anytime between 6-8 weeks ideally. Baby has their checkup/vaccines at 8 weeks so should also be booked. However the GP check up is pretty crap… if you had stitches they may/should look at these but otherwise they will ask how you feel, ask about pp bleeding and discuss contraception. It’s super basic and not really checking you, more going by what you say. I’d really recommend a Mummy MOT. This is a private service with a women’s health physio who will properly assess your body and discuss things specific to you and will even check your pelvic floor and if you had any muscle separation. They can advise on a plan for return to exercise, sex etc. It does cost, it’s £80 in London but probably range is £60-100. If you can afford it, it’s really worth the investment into you (I think). Can google for ones in your area.
Also with exercise, it’s great you will have a PT to guide you because even after 6 weeks/GP sign off, you need to be mindful of your body and best exercises to do etc. For example I am a runner and ran through pregnancy too but running isn’t something to resume until 12 weeks and patience can be the difference of getting injured or causing problems or not. And I had an emergency c-section so also after 6 weeks can’t start lifting weights yet even if signed off and if I feel I can because internally my body needs longer. These are things a women health physio/mot can help guide with. And of course you have your PT who should know what exercises are good to start with for postpartum.
Usually 6-8 weeks pp. Call your GP and make sure you have an appointment or they're planning on booking one in x
As others have said you and baby should have a check up at 6 weeks. If it's not been booked you will need to contact them to book it. That being said they don't actually 'sign you off' for anything at the appointment. With my first I was just asked about my mental well-being and contraception. Everything else was about baby.
Thankyou ladies! I called my GP surgery and they said I’ll receive a letter between 6-8 weeks with an appointment x
My GP has said it will be anywhere from 6-12 weeks (currently 7 weeks). With my first it was at 9 weeks. They didnt do any real checks on me just asked about mental health and pushed contraception.
@Lynsey are you able to get babies vaccinations before as I was told they couldn’t give mine till I’d had the 6-8 week check 😅
@Siobhan there are usually 2 checks - one for baby and one fur you… somewhere between 6-8 weeks. Sometimes 2 appointments (one for each) and sometimes combined because Mum might be done at ) weeks and baby at 8 weeks. It depends on the practice. The earliest baby can get vaccines is 8 weeks and no earlier, so if you/Mum had a check at 6 weeks, you’d have to go back at 8 weeks for baby check/vaccines. But babies vaccines can be done after 8 weeks just not before. And then the next doses have to be spaced out by 4 weeks. You should be able to request a baby vaccine appointment at 8 weeks and they’d need to facilitate the check as you shouldn’t have to be made to wait to get these. I for example was quite keen to get them all at 8/12/16 weeks with my girl as we were travelling and wanted them to all be done. In terms of mums check because it’s so basic that shouldn’t have any impact on when baby can get vaccines.
Yeh I moved and thought I’d booked her in for 6 week check but apparently it was just a new baby check 😅 so when I booked her vaccinations for today (8 weeks) I got a phone call Wednesday saying they’d have to change it as we both haven’t had a 6 week check which is now next week and her vaccinations are 2 weeks later so she will be 11 weeks. I didn’t mean have it all the same time I just know I’ve got to have the check up (which wasn’t much of a check with my eldest) before she could have her vaccinations.
Generally you have a 6wk check up with the gp. If all goes well/no issues within those 6wks your doc will most likely let you know you’re all good to resume regular activities.
