I've missed the deadline to get a specialized bike for my kids. We could modify a regular bike but it could be costly. Is it worth it to do or should we wait until next year to get the specialized bike?

They have been doing some bike riding at school with their PT but we have not bought them bikes in the past due to safety issues.

A little explanation of what we would need to do to a bike, get a bike that fits 4-5 year old, preferable three wheels or we put training wheels. We need a high back seat so put a waist strap, a handle for our own use has to be attached and foot straps on the pedals. Possible modifications for the handle bars depending on what PT says. I missed the deadline because I was unaware of the program until PT emailed me and I had asked my husband if he was good with taking the boys to the city to get fitted/pay 100 dollars each for the summer. He didn't read over the stuff in time.

@Jay yes! I would need something like this. Just add foot straps.

@Zainab🗝️ your best bet may be to add onto a balance bike , or even get this one(Amazon) and add the foot straps. Not sure if where you live has this, but we have programs for grants for kiddos with disabilities and they do reimbursements to you for stuff like this. Here it’s call the step up program, can help pay for lots of services and items for therapy, do you have something like that? Can you be reimbursed?

@Jay I'm going to look into it with our funding, we can get coverage for clothes, I know that but I'm not sure about bikes. I'll ask.

i would modify a bike! my kiddos at work absolutely LOVE riding the bikes in PT & never want to leave. i think it would be fun for them to get to do as often as they can & then you can get a specialized bike next year?
