Positive induction story with GD

I’m lying awake with my baby asleep on my chest, she arrived yesterday evening 😍 we are so in love and so pleased she is here and doing so well. Since I can’t sleep I just wanted to share our positive induction story in case anyone is booked for induction/considering it. I was initially put off by the thought of spending days in labour/being induced and nothing ever happening. But after 3 sweeps and multiple consultant appointments about the risks of my gestational diabetes we bit the bullet on Friday evening and came in to get the induction started. About 5 hours after the pessary went in, the contractions started. We did go for a super long walk after propess was put in. Managed to get a bit of sleep Friday night but not lots. On Saturday morning the contractions were bearable and then they really started to ramp up and I couldn’t breathe through them anymore. I was making animal sounds in the corridors 😂 She checked me and I was only 2cm so said I couldn’t go to labour ward yet. So I went and had a bath which almost stressed me out more because the contractions were just as painful in the bath. At one point in the bath I felt baby’s head moving down and I was sure I was much further along than the midwife believed. I asked for some better pain relief then a couple mins after getting out the bath my waters went in the corridor! I was whisked off to the labour ward and was already fully dilated. This was about 4pm. Luckily we’d been keeping my sister in the loop and she pre-empted that it would be soon so she got to the labour ward as I was finally chugging on the gas and air!! With each contraction I felt more of the water going which was such a strange sensation. Pretty soon I needed to push. I wanted a water birth but I knew there was no time so I started pushing on the bed and then my wonderful birth partners reminded me I wanted to be on my knees so they helped me turn around for the final few pushes. Then I birthed her! She was born 21 hours after the induction started! She is completely happy and healthy; not as big as they were worried she would be with my GD, and no shoulder dystocia which was the main fear with my GD. I lost quite a bit of blood so had to go on a drip but feeling much better now. Overall I’m pleased I followed my gut and went for it. I was so anxious about it and wanting everything to happen naturally that I just knew it wouldn’t start by itself with my anxiety. At the end of the day when your baby is in your arms that is the most important thing! In terms of my GD I will also add I was diet controlled even though insulin was recommended I said no thank you. In the days leading up to the birth I stopped measuring because I didn’t want anything stressing me out. In the end everything happened so quickly they didn’t even measure my blood in labour, but they did insist I go to labour ward rather than MLU. At that point I was happy to go anywhere with gas and air!! Baby had a really good feed a couple hours after birth and then blood test a few hours later she got a 5, so they said as long as she fed again they wouldn’t need to do another test. Which was a relief because honestly watching her have the test was heartbreaking :( Wishing an amazing birth for all the mummas still waiting for their babies 🤗
