6 months as per UK guidance, though I'm not sure what it is in the states 🙂. Babies are curious of the world, it's nothing to do with them wanting your food. 3 months is far too early x

That’s how my son was and now he’s 7 months and HATES purées. I can get him to eat like 4 or 5 bites at most but he’s only interested in eating my food 😂 I would suggest feeding him when you know he’s hungry (ie when first waking up from a nap) BEFORE a bottle. Pediatricians suggest feeding foods after a bottle but that has not worked for my baby at all

I started my little boy around 4 months with the purees and I introduced him to porridge mix in with some formula rather than water as it’s better for them as it still has the nutrients from the formula in and then gave him the rest of the bottle (so I do 2 spoons of porridge with 2oz formula and then give him the rest of the 4oz to wash it down with) and it absolutely loves it, currently he’s having frozen purees to help with teething as well x

With pediatrician approval you can start at 4 months with purées and move to baby lead weaning at 6 months. My first was very tiny and the pediatrician advised us to do purées at 4 months which we did. We would blend veggies and add water or breast milk to thin it out then freeze in pods (they have little round ice cube like trays for this on Amazon). Also purées or solids do not replace formula or breast milk for a year. First line of nutrition is breast milk or formula and they don’t even ingest much until 9 months earliest. I’d ask your doc if you can start purées at 4 months sounds like he’d like it

See my son, my youngest. He's about one, but when he was about, I want to say 4 months old, he was doing that to me. Also, so what I did was I would just give him like a taste of what I had. I wouldn't give him like, whatever it was. I would just give him like if he wanted like a little bit of milk. I would put it on the finger and I would rub it against his gums. So he would at least get satisfied, like no alcohol or nothing, obviously.

My boy was 4 months! 100% ready!! I would say try and wait until then or even just do small tastes on your finger if you wanted!! We did purées from 4 months and full BLW from 6 months! You know your baby better than anyone!!!

Our pediatrician said once he starts 2 to 3 times a night, that means he is hungry for more and can start solids. We wanted to wait until he could sit upright mostly on his own so he could swallow properly so we started around 5.5 months. Skipped purées, and went right into textured foods. Yogurt, mashed banana, mashed green beans, also offering large solids for him to learn to munch on

Starts waking up* 2-3x a night

I did cereal in the bottle around 4 months baby food around 4 1/2 months he’s now 9 months hates everything lol but will suck away at a butter roll lol as long as your baby knows how to swallow you can give ur little one some I also add it in the bottle if he won’t eat it

I started him on earth’s best cereal with homemade apple sauce mixed in at 4.5 months, and actual purées exactly at 5 months.

I started with store bought at about 6 months. Then I started making my own about 7/8 months. To which he refused store bought after 😅

I got the go-ahead at 4 months from his (and my) doctor because he was ready then: holding head up steady, could sit in a high chair/bumbo chair, was interested and trying to get our food, etc. He also saw a pediatrician (pediatric urologist) some something who saw his and my eczema, asked about allergies eczema and asthma, and said they recommend early solids in those cases because the 3 tend to go hand in hand and early introduction PREVENTS allergies or lessens the severity if they still get it. I also work in healthcare and every doctor and nurse I work with said to introduce common allergens early to help prevent allergies (studies have shown, at least from what i foudn with eggs, that later introduction actually increases the likelihood of allergic reactions)

4.5 months When he could sit up mostly on his own (I wanted to make sure he was strong enough to swallow foods) I did it after his first nap of the day bc by then he had nursed already and slept. We did it more as an activity and exploration of the foods rather than for caloric intake at first

Only you will know when your baby is ready. One or 2 bites here and there I imagine will do no harm.

Erm… yeah, three months is way too early. Try again in another three months. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DFdDkL3urQJ/?igsh=ZW1rMjdsOHZubDVn

^ I agree with @Sarah Babies main food is still breastmilk/formula for at least 1 year, food is extra. In the beginning it's exploration, learning, figuring out how to move stuff around in their mouth.

I incorporated dinner when he was 3 months old. A veggie mixed with some cereal. 3 weeks after we did our pediatrician gave us the go ahead. There is a thought amongst Drs that starting before 4 months can lead to obesity. My sons 13m now, never been overweight and eats a well rounded diet.

My son was SO interested in everything I ate from 4 months old. He even opened his mouth copying me as I ate! We stuck it out and didn’t give him any food/purees till 6 months and he ate a small amount each day but didn’t seem as interested now he was allowed it! His appetite kicked in a bit more at 8 months. He’s 11 months now and has eaten really well since 😊

4.5 months with my first because I gave into pressure from family, he wasn't ready and I hugely regret it. Just before 6 months with my second because I knew better to wait until he was actually ready. At 3 months your baby is NOT ready for solids. Showing an interest in your food is not a sign. Please wait until he is showing the actual signs of readiness and his gut has had time to mature to be able to deal with anything other than milk!

I’ll be honest, my son at 4 months but onto my ham sandwich so at that point we let him try alongside our food to get him used to tastes. He’s now 11 months and eats anything and everything and is so healthy happy and exceeds his milestones so I wouldn’t listen to guidelines personally you know when they’re ready

I'd say around 4-5 months. Once the baby can hold their head up well enough to sit in an assisted seated position.

My son is about to be 5 months in a little over 12 days and yesterday I went shopping and bout a few baby foods for him. So far he has eaten the pear flavor and loves it. He also sleeps longer since I give it to him as a snack before I give him 6 oz bottle. I wish I started introducing it when he turned 4. I also would put a little bit on a pacifier just to see how he reacts to it and don’t feed him the whole thing a day i do bout 3rd of the pouch a day maybe less. But in reality it is up to you as a mother to decide when to add them into their diet.

mine started at 6 months, do whatever you feel most comfortable with and ask your pediatrician if they recommend it or not

I started when my baby was 5 months

Also if you want to add something to your son’s diet along with breast milk/formula I would recommend baby rice cereal. my pediatrician recommended that I start adding that and along with other moms I met

He was ready …but simple things and then when he was 6 months I started with other things …my baby loves his food and his purée with everything

My son is the same way….he is so angry after bottles, stares down our food at meals and try’s to get to it. He will be 4 months on the 19th of April. My oldest son is going to be 2 in April and we waiting until 4 months.

I was advised when he has teeth and could sit up stable alone unsupported Baby’s will be fixated on a lot of things x

thank you to everyone🤍 for those that waited til their babies was able to sit up on the own for the most part that was my plan to start. and for the mamas saying it’s too early to start SOLIDS please do not take this the wrong way but i never said i tried giving him that nor am i asking about solids i do have common sense to wait i’m purely asking about PUREE considering there’s a complete difference. i do respect everyones opinions and advice so again thank you🤍☺️

We started at 4 months recommended by pediatrician. We started with veggies first for a month and at 5 months added fruits. Because fruits are sweet we started later to build his taste for veggies. Worked out well.

@jasmine purees are included as solids, anything that is not milk and is actual food is a solid. They don't need to be able to sit fully unassisted but do need to be able to hold their head up when sat in a high chair. Teeth definitely aren't a necessity either. Most babies aren't ready for food until closer to 6 months. Yes every baby is different and some will be ready a bit before others but the guidelines are there for a reason - it's not safe to wean too early. Choking isn't the only risk, it can cause no end of lasting stomach issues (how many adults do you know with some level of IBS). There's really no rush to wean 😊

@jasmine solids refers to puree as well. Kinda seen as alternative to liquid/milk. Then it’s your choice if you want purée, BLW (what I think you mean by solid) or combo.

4ish months we started with a taste of things here and there and then 5 months he was having half a meal every other day and by 6 months he’s eating 1 to 2 small meals a day.

Purées count as solids. So does adding cereals to their bottles. They really don’t need it before six months and it’s better to wait and let baby’s gut develop (unless you’ve been advised by a doctor to start early). What’s the rush? Here’s a really useful guide: https://www.unicef.org.uk/babyfriendly/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2008/02/Start4Life-Introducing-Solid-Foods-2015.pdf

Staring at your food isn’t a sign he’s ready. Can he sit up unassisted? I started at 5ish months with both my kids as they could both sit up on their own, and had good head control. I went straight to baby led weaning and didn’t do purées and as others have said purée is counted as solids as it’s not their usual milk.

6 months. And I also have kids that as babies would stare me down, or even scream at me while I'm eating.

My pediatrician gave us the go ahead after 4 months. I definitely think 3 months is still a bit early. We waited until 4 1/2 months and feed then same puree for 2-3 days before trying a new one. His been GLUED to our food since about 3 months also, maybe a little earlier, now he tries to fight me for my granola bar, my water cup, anything im drinking or eating basically LOL we did let him try eggs a couple weeks ago. He's 5 1/2 months now. He just tried pureed chicken today for the first time. He's tried avocado once and will again this week. At 6 months we are going to start trying to implement a little bit of baby led weaning as well! Big indicator is interest in food, but that can't be the only one. Baby's gotta have really good head control and can sit supported, basically meaning can sit in the high chair without slumping over/slipping around. I do recommend not starting with fruits tho! Start with veggie purees, then lead up to the sweeter stuff

Our peds said 4 months for us and said as long as they have good head and neck control, and show an interest in your food/you eating!

for the ones asking or mentioning.. i’m not rushing at all just curious to see as he shows some interest and wanted to see when other mamas started since not everything is always textbook and babies develop differently.. he does have his 4 month appointment on the 16th so i’m for sure asking his doctor about it!

I gave him small tastes at 6 months old , apple , pear , pumpkin and prune but it’s up to you when you think they are ready to move on to solids

about 5 months, i think people say at least 16 weeks but if you want to give your baby little tastes then its fine too x

My son is 8months now but I would mix his purées into baby cereal with some milk/ formula. He absolutely loved it and it seemed to get him interested.

We did 6 months but if I had like a strawberry I’d wipe it on his lower lip for just a taste. Just a taste of a non-common allergen is fine in my books

My son started at 6 months but showed zero interest and hated everything, so I paused it for a bit. Tried again at 7 month, no interest, so paused again. Tried again at 8 months and that's when he actually started liking to eat things!

6.5 months when he met the signs. Didn’t fancy risking gut issues and had no medical reason to start earlier. He looked at food from 3 months also, didn’t mean his gut was ready to digest it tho 🤷🏼‍♀️

I think this is a sign that he’s actually not ready for solids (referring to all food that isn’t milk). It’s normal for babies to watch you eat because they’re curious and very normal for their age! It doesn’t mean they want to eat them. I would not try again until he’s at least 4 months old and is able to sit up without assistance. Not sure why the rush for food, baby only needs milk at this age.

Way too early. Wouldn’t recommend it till 6 months, unless your doctor tells you to start early because of weight. If you want to give him a taste, when eating an apple or a peach, let him lick it. Starting small.

We started introducing purées at 3.5m he seemed interested before then but any time we tried he wouldn’t open his mouth..he really got the hang of it around 4.5m and now we are doing BLW started at 6m p
