Nursery

Today my nursery has increased to £696 from £466 I use it 3 days a week (that hasn’t changed) and I get the 15 hours free childcare (she’s 2). The 11 hours I get free per week (pro-rata) is now being charged by the nursery at 75p per ‘free’ hour… which means it’s not free anymore! The standard rate has gone up to £8.50 which I completely get. Has anyone else had the same… a 40+% uplift seems an awful lot?

I had a message from my nursery a few weeks ago to say they had no choice but to increase fees to keep running ours went up by £140 quite a steep jump. I don't get any free hours because I'm classed as a student.

It’s funded hours, not free. They can charge what they like to cover consumables like food, nappies, wipes etc. Unfortunately they don’t get enough to cover their overheads so most, if not all, charge extra. Some are a lot more.

Nothing extra on the free hours, just an extra £2.45 per half a day session (that is paid extra) and lunch/dinners have gone up by £2.70 for the month (unsure on percentage)

@Jordan it’s called ‘free childcare’ I am well aware that they can charge what they want… they are doing! I was simply asking if anyone had experienced the same! I need childcare as I presume everyone does that uses it… it just seemed a lot to me! An over £200 increase for 3 days seems a lot when you take into consideration the ‘funded/free’ hours.

I provide my own nappies, wipes & sumcream and the lunches and dinners are paid extra, some days when WFH I can get her before dinner. The consumables are for activities I have been told!

Ours has just gone from £60 a day to £68 😩 I also do 3 days and it’s so much increase! But we were expecting it with the recent increases everywhere else. Disheartening going to work for even less as we’re not getting increases. I have however told work what I’m coming out with now and they want to increase my hours so I’ve said only if they pay towards nursery otherwise I’d be working for the fun of it basically! 😩

Our nursery is the same and has been since she started. We pay £2 every funded hour for I was once told the up keep of things etc, this does not cover nappies or wipes which when we used them always took our own. we do however pay £5 for her lunch which I don’t begrudge paying as she’s trying new things with her friends and eats it all 9 times out of 10. It’s a lot but she loves her nursery days x

Last year we where paying £11.60 per hour for under twos. They have now increased 2 year old to £99 per day. And there will be a further increase in September when the 30 hours starts. So the funded hours aren't helping much unfortunately 😔

Ours is £950 for four days with 15 free hours. Does include everything / meals / nappies / wipes

Ours is going up to £895 for 3 days. They provide everything apart from nappies

Our nursery have had to do the same, to use the hours semi flexible or fully flexible, we have to pay £99 a month or £120 and they’ve put the price up this month and it will be going up in the September too. It will make our bill go down once we get the 30 hours free but won’t be as cheap as it was before. Sounds like most nursery’s can’t afford to do the funded hours 🤷🏼‍♀️

Ours also went up a lot recently. They have to cover the loss they make of the (underfunded) ‘funded’ hours plus general inflation and increase staff taxes so it isn’t that surprising.

No, I’m not surprised that it needs to go up! I’m surprised it went up 42% though! If my business did that I’d get lynched! Supply and demand…

Ours didn’t go up 40% but ours was also a lot more expensive to start with so the £ increase is possibly similar

Mine has just increased by £170 a month, we’re on 2 days at the minute. It’s about a 40% increase. Nothing I can do about it but with a mortgage increase too, plus other things, I feel like we’re constantly fighting to stay afloat.

Ours are now charging 75p per funded hour and as we have a flexible contract (different days each week) we pay £25 for that a month. Our little boy goes two days a week (which is his 15 funded hours) so will be £70 a month. We know how lucky we are to have such a small amount to pay. We also don't have to pay extra for nappies, wipes or food. Although the management of the nursery is changing this coming week so that could all change again x
