Housing after fleeing domestic abuse

I fled my abusive partner with help of DA charities. Council gave me a temporary accommodation for me, my child and pets. As it was the safest option. Told me to apply on kent home choice but they keep refusing my applications. I have joint ownership of a home, but I can't return to it. He won't sell or buy me out either. Even if I applied to have him out the house I couldn't afford the mortgage and his familey will cause hell for me. When i applied to Kent home choice last year the application did state if you own a home your not eligible unless it's due to domestic abuse. So I applied. But they refused and said its due to the house. When I kept pressing for more reason than " it's because you have a home" even though I physically can't live there. They then asked me to sent proof of whats left to pay on the mortgage and a property valuation. This was sent over as requested. They then said my appeal on the refusal was unsuccessful saying it's due to have 50k in assets. Again this was incorrect as I only have 30% deed in the property so means I won't even get 20k if he sold or bought me out. When I spoke to them about that, they reverted to the original statement it's because you have a home. But all the domestic abuse charities, social worker and everyone says that I should be eligible because I can't return to the house or touch the assets. I'm greatful I'm in some sort of accommodation to escape the nightmare. But it's just a different kind of nightmare. We soo out the way it's a struggle for schools and seeing familey, it's not suitable for the pets. And the place is run down. Feel like I'm getting no where.

I lived with my mum who’s flat I “on paper” own half of even though it’s all her money that was used to buy the place and she paid the mortgage. I only went on there for income purposes so she could borrow enough as she’s retired and I was working full time. But when my mum kicked me out and was mentally abusive I had to plead my case pretty much. Me , my partner and 2 week old baby got put in emergency accommodation and then into temporary. They wanted a crime reference number for the abuse so I had to file police report to help my case. They are still evaluating now whether they will house us properly but I’ve had to prove sooooo much! They will try and act like your making yourself intentionally homeless but you need to get all the proof and evidence of the abuse as you can, file police report but if you didn’t want it being investigated you can say you do not want it to go any further other than the report. Will the council not keep you housed? Xx

@Kellie the council just said they done their job giving me a temporary place. And that's all they can do. I don't mind being investigated I have crime references and had all the dv charity email them about it all. So they know it's real. They just won't help. I'm stuck. Costing soo much to travel I have to use food banks and energy vouchers just to get by. I won't be able to afford my car insurance next year so be worse as we out the way no close buses or trains. I just don't know what to do know.

I don’t get why they won’t house you properly? Could you not pay monthly with insurance? That’s what I do x

They just won't. Marac, oasis, sateda and social all say the same I can't return so I should be eligible. But they won't except my situation they just hear have joint ownership in a house. Even maidstone DA housing officer said medway shouldn't be refusing me because of having joint ownership because It's not safe return and I can't access the assets without him selling or pay me out which he's not doing. But medway won't acknowledge this. I can't go to maidstone as not lived there for 2years or have any connections to maidstone. X

They just sound bloody useless! It’s a shame you can’t try a different council. Luckily I had connections in bexhill so they sorted me out. My friends under Maidstone council and she struggled so much to get somewhere when she fled DV as they said she made herself intentionally homeless😒x

They helped me with a temporary place due to having oasis and marac saying about it being safest route. But they told me not to leave until they was ready with a place. Which I wasn't comfortable doing but did it. I tried looking private renting just too expensive,landlords want proof of people earning over 3.5k pcm, min free references and a guarantor. Which I have none of these it's soo hard x
