Advice please

Long story short; My son got kicked off SSI. I have no money to my name. This is supposed to be my income to move out of here. This is absolutely crazy. My son’s dad makes too much money now. What can I do?? I have zero control of my life now.

why was he kicked off?

Do you have ihss?

@Genn he got kicked off because his dad makes too much money SMH

@Jazmine 🦋 not in Michigan sadly

You can appeal. If you've received a letter in the mail stating your son is no longer receiving benefits, they should have info in there about appealing the decision. If not, call and get the information to appeal.

are yall together?

@Genn currently we live together. I’m in the process of leaving his dad. There’s 1 person in front of me on the waiting list for the apartment now I just lost all proof of income. My parents have room for me and my son but it’s going to ruin our relationship living together. I’m not sure what to do.

I'm so sorry that happened... I have a question though... how did they find out about his dad's income? Asking bc we live in Michigan too, I'm married to his dad still but we live separately so I didn't need to report his income but I'm wondering if they'll end my son's SSI for any reason if they receive status of his dad's income.

I'm sorry for you, but it's better live with your parents for the time being than turn homeless, so you can get back on your feet with your son 🩷

how were you gonna move out with just SSI? rent alone would take the whole SSI check

@Evelyn we are not married. For my situation since my son and I are living with him they go by his income. Let’s say I move out, my son will get his ssi back because I’m the primary parent and his dad will be paying child support. We won’t get every cent but it will be something. It depends how much he makes. For example my son’s dad makes $21 an hour 40 hr week. I’m not working right now so to them they think his dad can afford to take care of him.

@Genn there’s actually pretty decent low income apartments that charge 30% of income around here. Of course it would be hard with the price of everything but then my son will be with his dad too I’ll be in my own place with a part time job. Things may have changed though as there’s no more source of income coming in so it looks like I’ll have to get a job

Does he though? Or are you living with him while he contributes nothing financially?

Would you mind messaging me? I would love to hear about low income housing options in Michigan, I've called so many places with really long waitlists or no availability.

You can appeal, find a job, and contact a lawyer to start the process for child support. I hope you are able to sort something out.
