How to quit thumb sucking!?!
My recently 2 year old has been sucking him thumb LITERALLY since being in the womb (we have ultra sound pics - cute at the time...) but he sucks so hard that, while supposedly it's not a worry until they're 3, his teeth and mouth are already affected by it.
His first pediatrician (we moved) said we'd have to take away his "security blanket/ thing" which is a tiny cat pillow for him. (He came across the bottom of a cat bed once that the cats refused to use and the fuzzy thing has been glued to him ever since when it's time to sleep)
I don't think at this point it would do much good aside from leaving him an emotional wreck. Poor guy has suffered from night terrors since he was only a couple of months old. Uncommon but does happen (đ what does a 2 month old have nightmares about??).
Any suggestions? Please.
He's EXTREMELY smart. Already speaking complete sentences minus some connecting words from time to time so I've been trying my best to explain to him how important it is for him to stop.
He really tries his best until he's so close to sleep it falls back to full habitual motion.
I don't know how to move forward.
I refuse to accept the hot sauce method as being anything but cruel.
My son used a pacifier at night till he was 3. To wean him off, we booked a holiday away from the house. We slept in the same room and he got used to sleeping without it by the time we returned home, that night he wanted his paci back but we had to hide it. He cried a bit and stopped for the first night. After which, paci days were gone.
