No movement - SO worried

I’m almost 18 weeks. This is my second baby and my first is 17 months old so hasn’t been too long between the pregnancies. Everyone has said that I should feel movement by now but I have felt absolutely NOTHING. No flutters, no bubbles, just feels like nothing is there. I’ve had a missed miscarriage before so I am really worrying and convinced this has happened again. I have booked a private scan for the weekend to check but I am just constantly stressing and feeling so down 😔 the weekend seems so far away. I’m convinced my baby’s heart has stopped beating.

Have you been told the position of your placenta this time round? I had an anterior placenta with my first and didn't feel anything until around 22-23 weeks, not even a flutter until he was big enough to do a proper kick and even that felt quite faint

@Lucy no, I haven’t been told that yet. X

I'm 17 weeks and no movement. I had private scan at 15 weeks and was told my placenta is at the front so won't feel till later on

Try not to worry, placenta positioning can make a difference in some cases. This is my second too and I had movement with first around 18 weeks (anterior placenta) but movement started out totally different. It felt more like bubbles or flutters last time, this time it’s more like small pushes so they’re easier to miss I think. Maybe try giving your midwife a call and ask if you can come in for a quick check to give you a peace of mind

I’m also 18 weeks with a 18 month old and no movements yet either, I have an anterior placenta x

Who is ‘everyone?’ I don’t mean that to sound aggressive at all, but if it’s not medical professionals, ignore them. The NHS website says between 16 and 24 weeks, and that first time mums often aren’t until after 20. You’ve still got lots of time before you need to worry, and as others have said the placenta may play a part!

@Hannah ‘everyone’ is articles I’ve read online and people I work with/I’m friends with. I know I shouldn’t necessarily listen but it’s hard not to when people are surprised that I’ve felt nothing so far and say they did at this point, ‘especially with their second’ Because this is my second baby, I expected to feel movement by now and I’m paranoid because of my past bad experience and just keep thinking the worst has happened. Obviously my bad gut feeling could (hopefully!) be wrong. And, like you said, the placenta could play a part. I just can’t help but worry 😔

I'm 18 weeks in my second pregnancy and still haven't felt anything

I’m 18 weeks with my second and felt nothing. My midwife said that’s perfectly normal. Honestly I wouldn’t worry 🤍

I understand the stress don’t worry! I’ve had bleeding this pregnancy and I know it’s a constant thought in the back of your mind. The best thing I’ve read recently is ‘anxiety is not intuition.’ The fact you feel bad doesn’t mean that something bad is happening. I have to tell myself this daily! Your friends are being unhelpful - I’ve also checked the Tommy’s website and that’s got similar dates to the NHS. I really do think you’re all good. I’m sorry it’s so stressful though - I know it’s absolutely exhausting.

Did you hear the heartbeat at the 16 week midwife appointment?

@Emma I haven’t had the 16 week appointment yet despite being almost 18, it’s next week but I will ask 😊

That is really lovely to reassure you! Don’t book a scan if you have this next week xx

I’m 17 weeks with my 2nd and haven’t felt movements yet x

I’m pregnant with my second and am 17 weeks also, haven’t felt movements yet at all and didn’t feel them with my first till mid 20 weeks and they become regular coming close to 30 weeks , they say you should feel movements and start noticing a pattern by 24 weeks eg like if baby moves more on night or day. But it’s nothing to worry about x

I had a private scan today for reassurance and turns out I have an anterior placenta so that explains a lot. Was lovely to have the reassurance and I was told the baby has a very strong heartbeat ❤️☺️ Thank you lovely ladies for the supportive comments. X
