We followed a how to wean your baby book and it had a 30 day guide through different tastes and textures. It took the stress out for me personally and helped him try a really good variety of things / introduced allergens and seasoning steadily What I was eating wouldn’t always be ok for him, though I do meal share with him a lot more now he’s 9 months and weaning has progressed / I’ve figured out easier to share meals that we both like Bananas always a big winner for us! And I carry a pouch when out, just in case what I’m eating doesn’t work for him / or I need to feed him asap!
I don’t necessarily eat that well since having my LO (lazy tray bake meals shop bought which have too much salt in for LO) so I found this comment useless from the HV! But I do make her proper food for her but mash everything up so she can eat it. Stick to soft foods like sweet potato, scrambled eggs, avacado, potato, veg, fruit and just mash it in with purées at first until she gets used to eating thicker food, each time you can try a bit more texture. I then moved onto the likes of meats and just shredded chicken thighs then also chopped it so it is really small. Once they get to 8.5/9 months they are then able to pick little chopped bits up themselves x
You can give her anything you eat. Seasonings are fine just watch out for salt content. No honey before 1. Use the solid starts app for how to cut food. Most things want to be finger width so that baby can hold them but without rounded shapes. A baby’s gag reflex is much further forward so she will gag while she gets used to the contours of her mouth, she will suck lots of the food and not actually eat much of it. They are just as likely to choke on puree as finger foods. Get allergens done early. My girl just turned 8 months and started weaning at 6 months. She has had 97 different foods so far - probably would have been more but she can’t have dairy! Also, learn the difference between gagging and choking. That can help you feel calmer
Solid Starts is a great app, it shows you exactly how to prepare each food for each age group.
Download the app called Solid Starts, it shows you how to cut food etc dependent on age etc! Do you have any weaning classes at any of your local centres? X
