Food before 1 is just for fun! Their milk is still their main source of nutrition. I can’t believe she’s advised you that it comes before milk intake! Babies between 7-9 months usually drop down to around 4 bottles in a 24hr period at approx 5oz but this can differ as every baby is different! Just give foods as/when to get baby ready for 3 meals a day once they turn 1! X
@Elle same! I was so shocked as well really took me back and that’s why I’m now overwhelmed as I thought I didn’t have to consider till much closer to 1! Cause we’re only just finding our feet with 1/2 meals xxx
Mine advised similar but I told her no 🤣 my girl is 7 months and only interested in 1 meal the second she just doesn't care about at all! I'd just follow your own gut you know your baby best x
@Emily I do feel like it’s so early, I did go back and say… but you’re meant to start weaning on or around 6m so how can you say I need to offer 3 meals and drop bottles and then get through allergens in basically a month. Seems impossible. But I’m the same I will be going with my gut. Thank you so so much for all your support everyone!xx
@Elle “food before 1 is just for fun” is literally not true and has been proved to be a false statement x
@Louise that’s great, whatever works for you doesn’t mean it works for everyone else and it’s absolutely not needed nutritionally for a baby to be on 3 meals a day before they’re 1 as milk IS their main source of nutrition, not food. But if it works for you great, Every single baby is different and if they’re enjoying 3 meals a day before 1 then great but it’s also ok for those that aren’t ☺️
The nhs advise milk; after waking, after lunch, after dinner and before bed. You absolutely can go up to 3 meals a day and introduce allergens at the same time and in a month. I did☺️Look at “baby led weaning made easy” it’s a book that focuses on allergens first You want to offer food before lunch and dinner so baby isn’t too full because they won’t want to eat solids. Empty belly = more solid exploration, increased motor skills & better hand eye coordination. Whereas if you offer milk before solids they will less likely explore the food in front of them. Allergens need introducing early to help reduce the risk of them showing up in the future Milk and breastmilk do not do enough nutritionally to be enough, yes it should be the main source, but it should not be the only source and that has been proven x
@Elle and that is fine but to say “food before 1 is just for fun” is literally so incorrect and not safe to be spread around x
@Louise I think you’re missing the point of the OP post here. She’s not looking for a copy and pasted google guide on how to wean your baby otherwise she’d have done that herself and every parent here understands the importance of weaning and how it aids milestones, me especially, I have 2 kids😅. The point is parents don’t have to put pressure on themselves to do 3 meals a day yet if they’re not ready, it’s about preparing them to get to that stage before they turn 1. Also this isn’t a debate, each baby is different and ready at different stages simple as. People can take that statement how they want to,not everyone has to like it. And what do you class as research? Google and NHS website?🤣 no baby and parent is the same! have a day off please 😴
@Karina thank you this is helpful!
