@Sarah ohh okay! so you just take your birth plan in when you go into labour and they like might ask what you want and then you just ask for it there? and they see what they can do pretty much
@Ellie I imagine you’d mention it when you call them when Labour starts before you go in. As you’d probably Labour at home for some time first so they can then prep the pool if it’s free, double check with your midwife though, fingers crossed she gets back to you!
If you’re doing it at the hospital you need to make sure they do them first, and KEEP letting them know that’s what you want, and put it in your birth plan. If you just show up in labor they may not be able to do it. So just make sure you make it know that that’s what you want. I had my second at home in the bathtub. It was a beautiful experience. I’ll have all the rest of my kids at home. I wish i could’ve had my first in water but I was induced.
@Cierra i will be doing it at the hospital yeah, or at least that’s my aim! i looked online and i think my hospital have like 7 rooms? so yeah, if i go into labour at home ill make sure when i ring them that i ask for it!
I’m 38w, my midwife has put it on the front page in bold on my birth plan at 36w but as the hospital only has 1 it’s just first come first serve. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed that it’ll be available for me and baby 🩷
@Lucy hopefully you get yours! I’m glad your midwife has an actually done something about it for you and had made it clear! mine doesn’t even like responding to my concerns 🥲
@Ellie thank you my love! I’ve never messaged or phoned her though, just chat on the check ups x
@Lucy my next check up with her is april 8th! so if she doesn’t mention it then i definitely will! x
@Ellie good plan!! hope all goes well for you🤩
I laboured in the birthing pool for a bit but didn’t enjoy it as I got too warm, i just mentioned it when I called up to say I was in labour and said i was wanting the pool if it was available!x
@Anya yeah i think aswell with a water birth it’s so flexible! can get in and out when you like, you can always labour in the pooo and deliver on the bed, so i like having that option! x
@Ellie definitely! And i found it did help my contractions too! Hopefully you get your water birth 🤞🏻🤞🏻x
Hi! I see you are in letchworth (im in Stevenage) so having your baby in lister? I’d make sure you put in your birth plan paper notes if you have them AND the new online portal which was introduced. It has a birth choices section. I’d mention it at every appointment with her or at the hospital so it’s well noted. The midwives in the hospital are great though! When I went in for my induction they asked first what my choices were and again when I was transferred to the consultant led unit which has pools (the midwife led unit upstairs is the same). When you go in, if you aren’t in active labour so might be kept on the ward upstairs, at every shift change when you get a new midwife (8am/pm) (if you are in that long) let them know too straight away ! If they say no, ask why and any questions like, what are the risks why not, is it because or they might not have a pool available etc. There are only a few rooms with pools unfortunately so definitely make it known straight away.
Sorry for the long message haha!

@Sophie it’s okay! i’d love to stay in contact with you! that’s so handy as i will be having my baby in lister! x
It’s not up to the midwife really it’s up to who you have on the day of birth and what they have available ☺️ I had a water birth with my first but couldn’t with my second but mine was due to blood loss the second time round, it’s hard to see how much you’ve lost and if you need surgery in the water
@Olivia yeah that makes sense! hopefully i don’t loose too much! surgery after doesn’t sound toooo fun 😂x
Literally just head to the birth centre when you go into labour and say the words "I want a pool" and if one is free you'll get one Unfortunately if they have 3 pools and there are already 3 women labouring in each one then they can't kick one out for you. You can't book one up because you have no idea when you'll go into labour and it's just luck The only way you can guarantee you'll have a pool is if you hire one and have a homebirth 😉
@Emma 🌱 yeah i’ll see how it goes, if i want one desperately then maybeee ill have to make a late investment, if ive even got the room in my house, couldn’t tell you how big they are but it might be worth having a look x
Add it to your birth plan! If you are delivering in a hospital you can ask them if it’s possible to have a water birth there. I had laboured in water with my second and bother in water with my third. My midwife and doula set everything up for me. Sorry your midwife has not been very helpful.
You basically have to wait until the day you go into labour and ask when you call up as they will never be able to promise you a pool! Due to some trusts only having 2/4 pools and some having a pool in every room It really all depends you just have to call up on the day take your birth plan and ask if they have one available x
@Ellie have a look at birthpoolinabox.co.uk and homebirthsupplies.co.uk There are different sizes 🙂
I think usually you put it down as a preference in your birth plan at 34 weeks and then if it’s free when you go into labour then you’d get it, I don’t think it’s something that can but booked unless you have a home birth and rent a pool, but could be different in different areas!
