Nappy rash from nursery

My 1 year old goes to nursery and has done since he was 9 months (a girl’s gotta earn money for bills!). He always always always gets nappy rash. My mum has spoken to them (she’s a nurse), my partner has spoken to them and I have spoken to them on separate occasions but he still always seems to get it. He is teething which can of course aggravate it, but today I have had enough! The skin is all white (yeast infection?) and is bleeding. I already have my qualms with the nursery as they do not give him calpol/ibuprofen for his teething (which I know is commonplace) until he literally has a temperature. They tell me I can bring in teething gels and powder, next minute not the powder. Now he’s not allowed bepanthum on site because it’s got almond butter in it, but then they have the cheek to say the sudocrem isn’t strong enough. I need to work to afford to live so cannot just look after him at home. Already doing compressed hours so I can be off with him one day a week. At what point do I start going down a ‘formal’ route, I.e. safeguarding for this? I hasten to add he goes to a childminder on a Thursday and his bum is honestly brand new by the time he comes home. Shame she doesn’t have the availability to have him the other days. I have already raised my concerns with the health visitor but I was brushed off as “oh you know mum guilt is really tricky, etc.” but now I’m just cross. Any ideas or words of support please would be most appreciated. Lots of love xx

When my daughter started nursery she ended up with awful nappy rash. Turns out her skin didn't agree with the nappies and wipes they were using. They ordered her new nappies and I provide the same wipes I use at home and no more rash. I also send in the white metanium cream which I think is just as good as bepanthan. Hope it gets better soon!! Xx

@Courtney thank you so much. I’ll give that a try. You saying that about the nappies has just made me think that the ones they use are scented…that surely can’t be helping. I’ll buy that metanium cream and send in my wipes and ask for them to order different nappies and hopefully it’ll improve 🤞

As someone who works with children in nursery. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea but you could maybe inform higher up as in head staff etc and tell them that you have asked for this to be done and it hasn’t. Just please be careful that the nursery doesn’t twist anything and inform social services as neglect on your behalf… they like to do this to avoid getting in trouble 🤦‍♀️ a friend of mine informed social services about a mark on their child’s bottom which was a rash from wetting the bed and she informed social services herself as the school left her without cream. Plus to avoid them doing it. Social services had a word with the school. If you can send emails to them please do so then you have proof you have asked them so again they can’t use this against you xx

I had a similar issue with my nursery a few months back where my son was getting a rash every time he went to nursery but was absolutely fine at home! I put it in writing straight to management and can honestly say she took it very seriously - from changing nappies and wipes, to appointing one staff to changing the nappies for a few days and changing him every hour to figure out where things were going wrong - turned out it was due to the staff and the manager assured me they would be sent on training and she had meetings with all her staff! After this my son had no issues with his bum

So interesting, my sons nursery asked for more sudocream recently and I was suorised as we never use sudocream at home but they use it there as he gets nappy rash alot. I wonder if it's also that they check nappies at certain times so he's sitting innit for a while before they realise.
