Need advice

My son is 10 months and he has a cows milk protein allergy so we have been on nutramigen formula for that but when we transition off of formula when he turns 1, what are the recommendations to switch to? Has anyone been through this with their kid?

The most important thing to remember about weaning is that they don’t need any type of drinkable milk once weaned, as long as they get those nutrients from their solid foods, drinkable milk is only a supplement after weaning, so try not to stress yourself about it too much. With that said, you can give almond, oat, soy etc but in my birth month group it seemed like the most recommended option for babies with and without allergies was Ripple. I’ve heard it’s really good. Also we had some babies in the group who’s ped suggested trying to introduce milk again and some didn’t have the same issues they once did, you’d have to see what their doctor says about that option though.

Thank you!

Hi Jordan! You’ve been so helpful that I wanted to return the favor 🤗 (I swear I’m not stalking you 😂🤪) My 3 year old son (as well as my 10month old 🥴) are allergic to cows milk protein. At the time, the nutritionist recommended oat milk as it is more caloric dense. But so far I’ve used oat milk, soy milk and am currently using almond milk (the one that has soy protein added)

Aw thank you this is very helpful 😊 have you tried to introduce milk again? Just wondering!

@Fabi

My LO can’t have soya milk either so we’re currently transitioning to Alpro oat growing up milk with fortified calcium and iron etc. I’m sure unsweetened oat milk is fine too but I’m just making sure she’s getting the nutrients from it

My son has yearly visits to the allergist. On his most recent visit, although the ratio of the allergy decreased a little it is still very high. However, before last year’s appointment I tried giving him like a pedisure shake to test it out and he reacted badly. Thankfully, Benadryl works really well with him and I haven’t had the need to use the epi pen (knock on wood!)
