Also if you find that you simply cannot do it, it’s totally fine to move to purees!!!
You can even do chunky purees so they get used to and learn how to chew. They don't have to be runny and totally smooth. Also this way they are more likely to get used yo different textures and accept more food. I k ow how you need I can't bare it, I'm very cautious about what finger foods I give him , especially if it's something new and I'm not sure he can handle it
BLW is not best if it's not working for you! We started with purees at 6 months because my LG was so small and it just wasn't right for her (or us!) However, now at 8 months we are doing more BLW because SHE wants it. She is both spoon fed and she likes to grab foods and feed herself. Mealtimes should not be stressful so go for the chunky mush and trust that your LO will get there. The generation before us didn't do BLW ( I don't know any grandparents who did it) and we can all eat fine!!!
I'm not doing BLW I never did it for my other children (14, 16, and 17yr olds). I'm going on what I think my little boy can manage.
Choking is silent so as long as baby is making noises, he is working it out. Think of it as an essential part of the process, he is learning a very important skill when he’s gagging! Just keep an eye, don’t let him know you’re panicking and then if you want you can say well done when he spits it out 🥰 and feel proud that he’s making progress. My spouse also found it very stressful at first but I am ok-ish at staying calm and just pretending nothing is happening so my baby doesn’t worry. They just spit it out and proceed to stuff their mouths again haha. Your anxiety is very valid, normal and understandable ♥️
