Anxious ftm weaning

I've been doing purees with my LO so far and that's working great for us. I'm a bit anxious with anything else at the minute but for anyone else that started with purees when and how did you move onto more solid textures? It feels like a big jump to go onto like pasta or anythingt like that.Curious how others have done it especially if also anxious like me

I'm definitely anxious. I let him try some of our food mainly because he gets so grumpy when he's not allowed it! He mostly chews buttery toast into a pulp happily enough. He's had strip of steak that he just sucked dry 😂. Also feel like I'm constantly on edge though waiting for him to choke

Definitely look into the difference between choking and gagging, they will gag a lot but they are less likely to choke because their gag reflex is much further forward at this age. It moves back as they get older hence why starting younger is better. It helps them learn the contours of their mouths etc now. Also look at solid starts for advice on how to cut things, they mostly want to be about a finger width size so baby can hold it

I was and still am a bit nervy with food we did mushy foods from the start and my lil one is thriving. One thing that got me a little more confident in her ability to eat was watching her have a melty stick at 7.5months ish which helped a lot. Then it just got to the point where she was grabbing proper food so we gave her really ripe Bananas, v soft carrots and sweet potato. She's feeding herself and nailing it so I wouldn't worry about doing purees- all kids get there. Also , no one in our parents generation did BLW and we all eat fine!

I am so anxious about it too. I feel bad as I started late as I was nervous to do it and only wanted to do it when my husband was around incase he choked. Lately I’ve realised it’s not fair to do this as I feel he was def ready to start about 5 months old. I just bought a product that steams then blends which I can’t wait to use. It has 3 settings so you can make it more textured and lumpy as they get better at eating. This will hopefully make me more confident feeding him. He loves his food.

You can start just smashing with the fork which will be more chunky then purées, yet not enough for choking!
